       First day of school
As I walked down the passage of my building during the early
hours of the morning, a fear kept creeping up on me. ‘What if I
don't make friends?' I pondered, 'what if I get rejected?' These
thoughts made my heart race as I waited for the lift to descend
to the lobby. The warm summer morning breeze had just blown
across my face as I got into my father's car. "Nervous huh?," he
asked. I nodded silently. I was busy thinking of what could go
wrong on my first day of school and how I could counter it.
I missed my old friends and wondered how they must have spent
their first day of school without me. Were they missing me or
did my absence make no difference to them? The car roared to
life and we were off. I was tightly clutching my new Jansport’s
bag hoping that something would postpone the first day of
school. The ride there was smooth and silent. We reached school
in seconds which in reality was 10 minutes. I got out, swung my
bag across my arm and heard my dad say “have a great day” in his
usual jolly tone and replied back thanking him for the drive, I
also managed a wan smile. I shut the door and then he drove away
       to his workplace.
I took a deep breath before turning around to face the massive
brown building that was to be my school. I then walked past the
huge lawns before entering the massive building that I had just
thought of to be my doom…
       Annotations
As I walked down the passage of my building during the early
       hours of the morning
-this is the setting of the autobiography passage
       'Kept creeping'
-it shows his fear kept coming back to him
‘What if I don't make friends?’, 'what if I get rejected?'
-rhetorics are used by the writer to makes us readers think of
his situation as he his moving to a new school, it also
       describes his fears

       'I nodded silently'
-short sentences followed by long sentence to make the text
seems more appealing to the readers
'I was busy thinking of what could go wrong on my first day of
school and how I could counter it.'
-this shows us the fear creeping back on the writer and how he
tries to be optimistic about it by trying to get solutions
'Were they missing me or did my absence make no difference to
       them?'
-this shows us how the writer is thinking of all the good times
he had with his classmates, and whether they still remember him
or has he been already forgotten
       'The car roared to life'
-this is a metaphor telling us how the car started and is
       compared to a lion roaring
-this is like a waking point after the holidays signaling that
       school has started
       'Tightly'
-adverb of manner showing us that the writer is nervous because
its his first day at his new school

-this shows us that the writer is reluctant to go to school
because his fears “Kept creeping” up on him
       Smooth and silent
-this is a sibilant and a pun, the literal meaning is the ride
was smooth; the figurative meaning was that the writer was
relaxed and his fears stopped creeping back on him.
'In reality was just 10 minutes'
-shows us how the writer was day dreaming and time passed by
       quickly for him

       bag on his shoulder

-multiple kinetic verbs describing to us readers how the writer
       entered his school
       'my doom'
-this links to the writer's fear as he was scared of not being
accepted by his would be classmates
       '...'
-an ellipse is used to make the readers ponder over whats going
to happen to him next, is he going to succumb to his fears or is
he going to overcome them, this is left for the reader to decide
