First day of school
As I walked down the passage of my building during the early
hours of the morning, a fear kept creeping up on me. ‘What if I
don't make friends?' I pondered, 'what if I get rejected?' These
thoughts made my heart race as I waited for the lift to descend
to the lobby. The warm summer morning breeze had just blown
across my face as I got into my father's car. "Nervous huh?," he
asked. I nodded silently. I was busy thinking of what could go
wrong on my first day of school and how I could counter it.
I missed my old friends and wondered how they must have spent
their first day of school without me. Were they missing me or
did my absence make no difference to them? The car roared to
life and we were off. I was tightly clutching my new Jansport’s
bag hoping that something would postpone the first day of
school. The ride there was smooth and silent. We reached school
in seconds which in reality was 10 minutes. I got out, swung my
bag across my arm and heard my dad say “have a great day” in his
usual jolly tone and replied back thanking him for the drive, I
also managed a wan smile. I shut the door and then he drove away
to his workplace.
I took a deep breath before turning around to face the massive
brown building that was to be my school. I then walked past the
huge lawns before entering the massive building that I had just
thought of to be my doom…
