-Touching the Void is a book written by Joe Simpson
-It is a true story (Non fiction) of how the writer and Simon
Yates set out to become the fire people to climb Siula Grande in
       Peru
-The book is an autobiography, but unusually presents both Joe's
and Simon's points of view in the first person
-In this extract the writer tells us about a disastrous accident
in which Joe breaks his leg, so Simon is forced to cut the rope
       supporting Joe
-Simon returns down the mountain, believing Joe is dead
-Although his leg is broken, Joe crawls his way back down the
       mountain and is eventually rescued
-Joe's account is full of emotive language, feelings and
       thoughts
-Dramatic change in mood can also be marked in Joe's account
-At times the expression in Joe's account gets vague
-There is a sense of reality which also prevails in Joe's
       account
-On the contrary Simon's account is clear and vivid
       -Simon's account is also straightforward
-Simon's account seems to be too direct and detached, however it
cannot be said that it is devoid of feelings
-In both the accounts, sense of place and atmosphere has been
built through imagery and lucid graphic description
-The writer has used many kinetic verbs to describe the trauma
       nd suffering of the accident
