New member introduction

Hello everyone. I found your forum through the VR Team Britpack
entry. I hope I can contribute something useful. Let me
introduce myself: Ex military, I learnt to windsurf in 1980 and
then both taught and windsurfed competitevely for the next 26
years representing the RAF. When I eventually put my
windsurfers away, I learnt to sail offshore boats qualifying as
a day skipper along the way. I left the RAF some 10 years ago,
and with that access to real life sailing, so I was pleased when
I found a virtual replacement with VR a few months ago.
My results so far have been mixed, I'm currently in the Magellan
series, for leg 1 I joined to late to finish in time, leg 2 was
OK, leg 3 I had to leave half way through as we disappeared on
holiday and in leg 4 I'm pretty pleased with my ranking at the
moment, although there is still plenty of time for it all to go
pear shaped!
I have no inclination to use zezo, but I have purchased the full
option pack in VR. I don't know whether that is the norm or not.
Anyway, there we are.

Hi Geoff, and welcome to the Britpack forum. Like you, most of
us have come to VR from varied sailing backgrounds (although our
team leader, Emma (Lockkeeper7) has impressed us all by turning
in some great performances with no previous sailing
experience). I hope you'll be able to join in with our chats on
the forum, where we exchange our experiences, joys,
disappointments and frustrations! We're a no Zezo group, and
each of us decides for each race what range of options we're
going to use, depending on how much sleep we want.
Congrats on your position in The Magellan. You're showing us
all the way at the moment.

Hello Rob, tks for the warm welcome.
I like your comment re "depending how much sleep we want". Two
things are working in my favour regarding my Magellan position.
Firstly I'm retired (as I suspect quite a few of you will be),
so pretty much every time I pass my study, I'm able to tweak my
course if necessary and secondly, we have two dogs, one of which
is inclined to decide he needs the loo during the night. So
having sorted him out, I might just sneak a peek at VR to see
how I am doing and if I need a course adjustment. How long this
enthusiasm will last I don't know, but I expect it will go on
for a wee while yet. I'm sure nobody likes going backwards!
