Nightmare night onboard LK. 1) very bad internet 2) thinking I
was being smart, I carefully set, multiple way-points however I
failed to realise that on each beat across the narrows, the wind
change so much we stopped dead in mid channel (presume its the
cliffs). 3) then the game stuck and even after a full restart,
it would not let me move my way points, so I had to delete and
loose them. So the only choice for me in the early hours was to
set the TWA and bounce off each side of narrows. Well, IG the
hairy trophy is safely mine - 4 groundings SO FAR. Being
totally honest, I probably overspent on Transat options and
should have kept more back for Mag 4 nav cards. Mind you, the
plan for Leg 4 of Le Figaro to provide more credits which it
should have done, had I not grounded on an invisible rock,
turning the last nav mark.
Good look everyone and especially ME !!!
Em

That's a run of cruel luck, Em. That's the problem with
Waypoints while on the wind - if the wind heads, you're stuffed.
The IG nav has been buying lots of Prog cards, and judicially
tacking down the centre of the channel. Has kept us out of
trouble so far. Looks like the next set of narrows will also
have the wind on the nose - getting expensive in cards. Perhaps
we should have invested in all the options this time.
Good luck everyone.

I'm trying to re-use most of my nav cards. If I can, I set an
alarm before they are due, then make the turn manually and
cancel the nav card. If I miss the alarm the tack happens as
programmed.
Having said that I used a direction nav point last evening to
round the point, and when I came back to the game I saw I was at
54 degrees and going nowhere! Don't know how long I was stuck
there, not long I think.
I reckon you have real competition for the hairy trophy from
Crikey Bobs. Maybe not as may groundings but has got really
stuck and let me by (is it time elapsed or number of
groundings?).
Speaking of which my current position has been improved greatly
by I think lots bailing out and using the shorter route to the
pacific as Topolino is using. I should have swung round and
followed her.
All this tacking is getting the crew down! no wonder Magellan
had so many mutinies! I appears going round the horn has VR
approval and now has the Escort frigate down there. Why mark
the route, if you didn't have to use it? If none of the routes
were marked then it would be a choice! Just saying. And then
this morning, I'm planning some tacking across this 5 mile wide
channel and the nav route tells me it's going to take 12 hrs to
get 1/3 of the way across (from 12- 24 hrs). I check the nav
point direction - I must have made a mistake put in 56 degrees
instead of 65 - No! It's because the wind drops to 2 knts.
Unbelievable - mutiny on the way.
Meanwhile those going around the Horn are in 18 knts downwind.
I hope those on the Topolino route get really stuck - unless
that includes any of you!
Off to have some grog - I don't care where the yard arm is!

Thanks guys,
The alternative route are really appealing to me at the moment!!
Does anyone know why you can cancel a nav-point and have it
credited back, but cancel a way-point and no credit.

1,2,3 and I'm back on board, safe to say that my recent attempt
to gain the hairy trophy was entirely drink related, not hiding
behind any poor internet or game not loading I was just
distracted all weekend by the evils of drink :)
looks like I've got a bit of catching up to do, reckon the evil
fluids cost me about 9 hours I was just behind Your Mom when my
hic ups strated to occur
