Unfortunately, we on IG made a bit of a mess of the various wind
changes of the last 48 hours, and The. Few is looking a bit
       mutinous.
Good plan to get east of the coming low if poss, although we are
so slow it will probably pass ahead of us.

Please correct me. Up to now I've favoured the Eastern side of
the fleet and I think that the weather will favour the East side
for the next two or three days. Even after this low sweep by us
the next weather pattern on Tuesday seems to favour the East.
But then a High builds in from the West and sets up a stream of
southerly wind down the coast while further East will face a
northerly. With nothing in between. As the high moves west
there'll be a chance to head for the coast, otherwise those in
the East will be stuck in the East.
My problem is I still can't gauge how far south we will get by
Wednesday. I keep looking at the wether map like we're saining
Class 40's and I think we'll clear the high, but I know that
I've recorded a speed of less than 2 knots over the past 24 hrs.
We are just not going that fast. The 24 hr course projection
should help, but without more nav cards than we have on-board it
just looks like a twity snake. I've tried using a straight
course but the forecast projection only gives a true reflection
if you've got Auto sails on. Once again we don't have a good
       stack of those on board.
So a lot of guesswork, and I think I'm going to try to edge West
over the next couple of days.
Sorry for the long one-way missive, but It's been great chatting
       with you.
May the wind be on your beam, Roland

Blumming heck, Roland I think your thinking to hard !, CB
tactics is to generally head to the finish in the shortest
route, dont go past 150deg wind angle or less than 65 as i did
last night cross your fingers and open another bottle of grog
:). its looking lumpy ahead do these things have stabilisers ?,
have you been on board with the 3D, plenty of room lovely for
this type of cruising but a bit rollie

Crikey, I'm impressed, Roland, by your analysis of the weather
options - well beyond my competence. The problem is that at
these slow speeds its really difficult to plan more than 12
hours ahead as by the time we reach the forecast wind - it's
changed! I too am trying to keep it simple by sailing the most
direct route at the recommended angles. But having made
something of a mess of this leg - we sailed in circles for a
while early this morning - I'm in no position to advise -
although west does look best at the moment.
A issue of grog and weevil biscuits all round.

you're both right! 12 hours later and the forecast is completely
different. Ah well. Sail for the current conditions, fingers
       crossed for the future.
