Hi Skippers,
I thought foils were a recent invention - apparently you can fit
them below the oar holes and also have radios.
Polar curves would be interesting?
Maybe the graphic is wrong - lol

Yes pity about the foils thing, so unrealistic. they could have
had the option of a mizzen mast to provide the extra boost -
having foils is just daft. However I like the polar graphic
which shows these things suck going up-wind. Nothing above 60
degrees off the wind. Should make it challenging to get places.
It'll be fun going round the capes if the wind's against you.
Has anyone had experience with these Caravelles?
Bouyed by my cuurent slice of luck - I think I'll give the
Magellan a crack.

I saw this as well and thought the foils thing was a bit silly.
But it does look like a good challenge with the caravelle as the
boat. I have no experience of it in the game or real life.

I will probably have a go with this one, not sure about options.
Would you choose a parrot ... squawk (radio) over a capstan - I
did not think these were involved in sails unless swaying up a
cross-mast?
The foil options would make more sense if it was translated to
light conditions or adverse wind directions when the oars come
into play.
I just wish VR would think things though a little better.

Yes, this looks worth a go, although I agree it's a pity the
options aren't confined to appropriately traditional means of
propulsion. I shall eschew the foils in protest, and equip IG
with canvas light and strong wind sails, plenty of grog and
weevil biscuits.
