My initial view of the new User Interface.
By: skipper7 Date: October 5, 2017, 5:01 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Hi,
Due to security issues at work, I use my personal iPad for most
of my sailing.
The interface is much cleaner and less cluttered.
It may be consuming more battery power than it should. (Graphics
set to Automatic)
Initially, I was annoyed about the feature cards, however as we
automatically get some free on a regular bases then I'm less
concerned. Having to use a future weather card is mean as it is
only valid for a "session". I am going to ask VR what is a
session.
The boat options cost more!! Equipping the boat for the
specific leg or race is interesting. As you know, I don't trust
myself with all options, so I will ponder the specific leg and
select accordingly. Currently, in the Clipper, I have only
selected foils to see what effect it has.
Not publishing a full set of polars is a pain.
We may have to work them out and share on our forum.

Hi Emma
Thanks for setting this up. Good to be back in touch.
Yes, the new graphics look pretty good to me. I'm not keen on
the cards - bit of a money-making wheeze by VR - but at least
there are some free ones (I agree it's mean to have to use one
to check the weather, and there are rather too many of the
largely useless Help cards!). It's not clear to me what the
purpose is now of buying the full options pack. You don't even
get unlimited auto sails.
Not sure I can cope with both The Clipper and the VOR! So will
probably concentrate on the latter.

Thanks Emma for setting up the forum! I like the interface but
I'm not sure how the friends or "following" thing works. What is
that little green man with a question mark? - See attached

I'm puzzled too about the green man question. Also having
difficulty finding friends, and with making the in-game
conversation happen. Doubtless we'll find our way how it all
works eventually! The only thing that's free now seems to be
the TWA function, using the little padlock.

All these additional cards you can buy - but you get some free.
For free you can have the rubbish cards, or take a chance on
some even more non useful cards (Stealth and the really
unhelpful Help!). It's like flying Ryanair.
