So sorry for the lack of reports - I managed to get alcohol
poisoning as I'm allergic to the stuff. Spent the last couple
of days taking sole ownership of the heads and generally feeling
sorry for myself.
South was definitely the wrong choice, I thought you guys were
going to hit some light stuff but no!!
Well sailed B9 and IG, you managed to keep Penquin honest.

So sorry to hear that Em, get better soon.
The southern route was brave.
There are still many things I don't understand about routing. It
seems like if your boat is on the best VOR, then why opt for a
faster direction away from the wind? I get it the idea if it is
to get to an area of better wind speed, or more crucially wind
direction. Yet IG and I are on track to squeeze round Barry
Island on the course we're on and there's boats tacking north of
us. It may be because Penguin, SideShow and other are
approaching from the North and they like the company. True
there's 2 degrees better wind direction up there, but better
wind speed down here.
It must be for wind direction, but surely it can't be worth it
for such a short distance? Even with the winches option,
there's still a penalty for a course change, isn't there?

Two reasons for the northern route, 1) better pressure I've
carried 1-11/2 knots over sideshow/ your mom, for a good 24hrs
2) at the time of decision the angles were better that meant I
wouldn't have to tack, and so its work out that i haven't had to
tack into a nasty header which is where i have gained the most.
Oh and the most important thing is I've been lucky ;D

Thank you - at least I'm keeping food down now !!
These finer points and a quite a few of the coarse points elude
me too. One point to add from I think RCLaser27, the penalty
for a course change with a standard winch is significantly
longer than a pro-winch (from memory, so highly suspect: 5mins
to 30secs)

I didn't mean Penguin. You chose a northerly route some time ago
as did Gibdodger. It's more boats like Callumedge who tacked
north - partly cause they had to, but then kept going right over
B9. In fluky conditions that may be to leave room for
change.... and it's not like he was the only one, Your mom,
SideShow and Mullionman did the same - and they could make the
headland without having to tack. A lot to learn for me!

Sorry to hear you've not been well, Em, and I hope things are
looking up (or staying down).
Impressive result again for Penquin - well done - and it was
good to have such a close race with B9. For a while I though IG
might sneak past, but inattention during last night and today (I
went sailing!) cost me some distance.
Like B9, some aspects of the game still puzzle me.

Rob, A really close race, just 21 minutes in the end. Just one
little course difference could have made the difference. It
helped me to an unexpectedly good ranking so thanks for pushing
- actually all the way from Newport!
Hang in there Emma! Did you fall asleep at the wheel this
morning?

Yes !! right now jumping to the escort frigate looks inviting,
but no, I'm back at the wheel now and bobbing along very slowly.
I may not make the cut off. Good fun this game!!! Em
