View from Penquins crows nest

Well here we are 10 days in and I’m exactly where I didn’t want
to be, south of the rhumb line running through the islands and
heading towards a blooming big hole.
I would have liked to have been another 1000 miles east but I
simply wasn’t committed enough off the start line, once again I
feel like the mouse with hawks ready to pounce, yesterdays the
forecast gave wind through the islands and thought I might get
away with it but now it says there’s a big high, good for
drinking and barbecuing off the back of the boat but bad for
sailing.
If Gadge and B9 can keep east of the rhumb line they may have a
chance of missing the worst so good look to them if they commit
to that route and will raise a glass if you go pass 😊

Sorry your view is not more encouraging, and it certainly looks
a bit empty ahead of you. We on IG are in the slow lane at
present but hoping that by staying east of the rhumb line we can
pick up some places. But we're looking over our shoulders at
those well north who we feel are due to make a dramatic
appearance!
No more hairies, LK!

I think we all have the same reading. I thought IG's move to
stay North and East last night was inspired, but the predicted
wind vanished like, well, thin air.
It seems this ridge of low wind extends all the way to the other
side of Fiji. There must be an opening to get through as it's a
long way round, and will favour those bearing down from the
north. I plan to head East before the day ends.
Good luck to all

I'm about to be out-ranked by IG, so time to head south. First
thing in the morning.
Meanwhile Your Mom SA comes barrelling down from the North,
impressive. I just feel sorry for Winchmonkey who tried the
same route and is now 1,000 miles behind. Makes me glad that I
didn't try to keep up with those who went really far North.
Interesting to see Emma weaving through the islands, although
I'm not sure how you're going to make the mark.
Phil looking good on Penguin a great sail so far, but I suspect
you're going to need some oars! But because the slowest wind
speed on this is 4 knots, and these boats slip along quite
nicely in 4 knots, it just comes down to wind angle. I suspect
you and the other leading group will get through this light wind
before long.
