23 June 2021.
While going north up the Atlantic my position dropped from
around 600 mark to around 40,000. I guess that this was when the
mass of boats in the southern ocean made up several thousand
miles with their steady 40kt boat speeds compared with my
leisurely 10-15 kts.
Anyway, I made my way to the west of Greenland, being scared of
the direct route over the north pole to the Bering Strait. I
thought I might get lost off the edge of the chart, go around in
a spiral on a constant bearing, or that the maths would blow up.
Interesting that it still went dark at night despite it being
June.

I've overwritten my almost invisible blue line route in red to
make it clearer. I must get a red or yellow boat next time!
Coming south past Russia / Alaska I had my first experience of
some 30+kts of boat speed for a while and gained several
thousand places in the process. Tokio is now in sight with some
complicated winds to deal with.
Good sailing to all. Eric
