       Course Changes and Winches

Found this on VR Club house posted in French and translated by

Personally I would consider the winch behaviour on tack/gybe as
finally fixed. Now there is a difference between pro winches and
       not:
75 seconds at 50% speed for pro winches on tack or gybe
300 seconds at 50% speed withour pro winches on tack or gybe
The sail change penalty now also really works for the full 300
seconds at 50% speed in stead of during only one update cycle
(120 seconds). However, this fix has introduced another bug or
unwanted behaviour has been added. It is now also applied when
       the autosail kicks in ...
This results in unwanted behaviour, such as:
penalties for autosailchanges in a fixed heading when there are
       windshifts
penalties for autosailchanges on a fixed angel to wind
(auto-ATW) when the wind speed changes a bit.
penalties for autosailchanges when sligthly adjusting ATW
This happens when you operate your boat close to a sail change
       point everywhere in the polars.
What do you virtual sailors think, is this wanted behaviour
because it is the same for everyone or is it unwanted?

Now I've posted this - I've noticed that quite a few boats use
small and frequent course changes to sail in a straight(ish)
line Penguin is doing this right now. I guess this is to avoid
lots of penalties if they stayed on a course setting and VR kept
       penalising for wind angle changes.
       Can't be right!

       Hi Roland,
Are these factors why LK is slightly slower than yours (and
       others)
       Right now I have:
       Wind 31.0kts
       TWA 130
       Speed 26.5
Sail Code 0 (which according to the Sail Configuration box is
       the fastest option)
       B9FUN
       Wind 28.2kts
       TWA 130
       Speed 26.5
       Sail ??
Confused . . . . not for the first time.
       Em

Ahh - I've noticed this the Code 0 seems to have a maximum
speed. I suppose that's reasonable, after a while the yacht
will just be more heeled over. Then you can only go faster by
reducing to a more efficient sail - staysail (see other post!).
But the staysail only kicks in after a while there's a bit there
       where it's just maxed.
I was almost certainly also running Code 0. It would be nice if
the little picture of the boat reflected it's sail pattern.

I am beginning to think that 26.5 knots is the max hull speed
even on foils for Full option boats.
