Nekoyasha: Samurai Cat-Yōkai
By: Asura Date: September 29, 2015, 4:42 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Name: Nekoyasha - 猫夜叉

Height: 75 m
Weight: 35 000 metric tons (10 000 of which is armour)
Gender: Female
Abilities: Nekoyasha is a samurai with over four hundred years
of combat experience, drawing from a number of kenjutsu styles
to slice her opponents to pieces. She wields a yōtō
(katana tsukumogami) with a red-and-black hilt, forged by the
insane blacksmith Muramasa Sengo and imbued with a powerful
curse. By channelling her sword's curse, Nekoyasha can wreath
her sword's blade in demonic ki, increasing its range and damage
output; or unleash a powerful blast of demonic ki from her
katana's blade. She can also form a supernatural yumi bow that
fires spectral arrows, which pierce through anything in their
path.
If she loses control of her rage and reverts to her feral self,
Nekoyasha wields her sword one-handed, swinging it recklessly
and without finesse; and transforms her off-hand into a large
paw with massive claws. She is prone to viciously biting her
opponents and can breathe streams of spectral blue flames.
Nekoyasha can also transform into her true form a monstrous
black tabby cat with two tails, at will, fighting using her
fangs, claws, tails, and spectral flames.
Bio: In the Warring States period of feudal Japan, there lived a
lonely, childless samurai. One day, the samurai chanced across a
small kitten and took her in, doting on her as though she was
his child. When the samurai was called off to war by his daimyo,
he promised the kitten he would return... but he did not. Months
passed and the kitten grew into a lithe and fierce cat. Finally,
a messenger from the shogun's court arrived with soldiers and a
strange package: her beloved owner's severed head. His political
enemies had framed him for treason, leading to his imprisonment,
torture, and execution. As the soldiers began executing the
household staff and retainers, the cat - filled with rage and
hatred - lapped the blood of her deceased owner, awakening a
power within her and transforming her into a bakeneko.
Taking on the form of a young woman, the bakeneko swore to
avenge her beloved owner, claiming the shogun's messenger and
soldiers as her first victims. Stealing a cursed sword reputed
to have demonic powers, she was driven insane and wound up
cutting down and devouring anyone she came across. A wandering
monk, fearful that she might one day grow too powerful to stop,
faced her in combat and sealed her powers. He took pity on her
and spared her life, taking her in and nursing her back to
sanity. The monk trained her in meditation, and when he was
satisfied she had suppressed her rage and would not give in to
her sword's curse, he removed the seal on her and gave her the
name "Nekoyasha". Inspired to better herself, Nekoyasha
travelled Japan, studying kenjutsu and honing her supernatural
powers until her tail forked into two and she became a nekomata.
During her travels, she consumed the soul of a giant yōkai
called Daidarabotchi, becoming able to greatly increase her size
and strength. However, after the fall of the shogunate she
vanished into the mists of time and became nothing more than an
obscure figure in folklore.
For over two hundred years, Nekoyasha sheathed her sword, living
among the humans and eventually making a number of close
friends. When the Kaiju began appearing, she beseeched the Four
Divine Beasts for aid and was given a supernatural suit of
armour by the Azure Dragon. Bidding her human friends farewell,
Nekoyasha set out with sword in hand, but will she remain an
honourable samurai... or will her predatory instincts and the
curse of her sword erode her sanity and return her to the raging
demon she once was?
