       Facepullling and Open bites
   DIR By: Connor

Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone who has been doing
facepulling, has been noticing an increase in an open bite. For
whatever reason may it be the facepulling or damon braces fault
as well...my open bite has increased while still, my results
have been good and very noticeable with before and afters and
let me tell you I was facepulling for a good long 7 months with
a custom hooked retainer and its wasn't until I got braces I saw
any changes or results haha. So if any of you are having issues
with results with just a retainer, the braces thing really
worked for me. Anyway let me know if any of you have any ideas
or similar experiences. My ortho still has no idea im
facepulling which is the reason I got braces a second time but
he is now trying to run elastics to "close my bite". I do not
       know if I trust this.
       Thank you all :)
       -Connor

Hello Connor, did you have extraction orthodontics before? I'd
also like to know if you've had your palate expanded. The open
bite thing is very interesting. Please keep us updated.

Plato is talking about an open bite being a possible side effect
of face pulling on his website. I've also heard that when Dr.
Hang tries to reopen spaces to reverse extraction orthodontics,
a lot of the adults will get a slight open bite. I think it's
just something we have to be careful of when trying to expand
the maxilla forward after we're fully grown.
By the way, that's very interesting that you didn't notice that
much of an effect when you were pulling with a retainer. This
might be why I'm not seeing results with my removable expander.

If you have a narrow dental arch you are not going to get the
       results you want.
Gala: You said you were seeing results and have expanded 1mm per
month, 4.5mm in total. Now you say you're not seeing any
results? Please make up your mind.
PS: Schwarz appliance is NOT the same as DNA appliance =] Very
       different.

Complexx, please read people's posts before making assumptions.
I'm seeing lots of results from the palate expander, however not
from the face pulling with that same expander. The topic of the
post is mainly face pulling, correct?
Let's just make sure we're on the same page here. There's
transverse expansion and sagittal. Most Schwarz appliances are
transverse/lateral, as is mine. Face pulling is dealing with
       sagittal expansion.
I actually don't think DNA and Schwarz are all that different!
(Aside from the sagittal screw which can be added to a Schwarz.)
This is just an opinion however, but I believe what this doctor
       is saying:

       > It was nice to see a picture of this DNA appliance. What you
have recieved on the upper is nothing more than a standard upper
active plate with a “triple screw” and a bunch of Rube
Goldbergess finger springs to push your front teeth forward.
[...] I am currently looking at a picture of this appliance in a
book published in 1966 and written by a dentist named Schwarz.
Your upper appliance is a combination of a Schwarz plate and a
Sagittal Plate. Similar constructs were being used in the
       1800′s.

I don't agree with the other things he's claiming.
But we might want to be open to the idea that the thing that
differs the most is the protocol (Schwarz - wear all the time,
       DNA - wear at night).
       Anyway, that's a bit OT.

I've never had extractions I still have my wisdom teeth and
everything thank god I told my dentist don't take them out which
she wanted to for no reason what so ever. I mean who the hell
decided that wisdom teeth should be taken out for the hell of
it? She had absolutely no reason to want to take them out.
       Dumbass dentists I swear.
Anyway besides my rant, I do think I might be pulling to hard
because the last several sessions have left my face feeling
awkward and aches. its just hard to find the right pulling force
and stay there because the rubber bands are always moving and I
cant seem to stop them. Its all very frustrating....very
       frustrating.
Another thing I've noted down in my notebook is that my teeth
grinding at night has actually increased noticeably. I've been
waking up with my jaw clenched and slightly grinding still and
it really is a horrible feeling. This just recently started
happening according to my girlfriend and my own observations.
So I will be pulling with MUCH less force even though it feels
like I've already reduced the force considerably.
On a side note as well I've been getting ABC
chiropractic...although it feels like its helped some, my
posture (even though not bad) has not visually improved although
he says it has. I really hope he knows what he's doing. Every
       Practioner is different...
This January man....I swear there is something weird in the air.
Not good things not good things. haha

Wow, so much difficulty with face pulling.
I wish I knew more about it and could help but I simply haven't
       done it myself. :|

(@ bstratt)and just by looking at your pictures Ben it doesn't
look like you need it all that much! NCR seems to have done you
wonders just by its lonesome :). No need in doing more than
necessary but this is just my observation ya know?

Ben, have you expanded your palate? It looks like you should
DEF. go for fave pulling! I think it'll make things perfect for
you man. That's like literally your last step IMO.

I'll get around to it this year definitely, but yeah my palate
is expanded. I can take some photos to show people.
Unfortunately I don't have any before pictures...
