       Tongue too far back?
By: catalino Date: November 27, 2017, 9:14 pm

When mewing, how forward should the tongue be placed on the
palate? Mine is where I don't feel any front teeth when I mew,
my tongue is about half of an inch behind the upper teeth, a bit
less actually I think. I can provide pics if needed

Mew is of the opinion that the tongue should not touch teeth.
Beyond that, I don't think it's that significant. Do whatever
feels the most intuitive, or play around with different
positions. Sometimes sliding the posterior tongue back & forth
can be helpful in finding proper position & muscle activation.

Thanks for the information, I was worrying about this for a
month, constantly fiddling around with my tongue trying to find
the right position, but hearing this from you makes me less
       anxious.
A user on the site Lookism by the name of Donsjohns stated that
the further back the pressure is applied on the hard palate, the
more influence it will have higher up on the face (Posterior
part of palate influences the middle third, while the more the
pressure is located towards the anterior part of the palate, the
more the lower third of the face will be influenced)

Ah, well yes. Considering how posterior tongue touches not just
the palate, but the lower wings of the sphenoid too, that may
       have some practical validity:

And in addition, the anterior part of the palate truly is
       separated by another suture:

In the end, proper tongue posture leads to pressure being
generated against both the anterior and posterior
palate/sphenoid, so the most useful thing would be to simply
focus on achieveing as wholesome tongue posture as possible.

This clears up everything! Thanks! Stupidly, I was going strong
with the oral posture until late October I worried too much
about the tongue being far back and ended up with a tongue
thrust in the last 3 weeks. I'm still 17 so I really, really,
really hope there's enough time to fix the mild backwards
progress I've made in the last month or so.
