Advice Needed for 17 Year Old
By: ThaGangsta Date: July 28, 2017, 10:02 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Hey folks,
I've visited this forum for the past 1.5 years, from when I
first started mewing. I have been mewing since turning 16, and
have been slowly increasing my chewing load, from chewing 1
piece to chewing 3 pieces of gum at once, for 6 hours a day,
while practicing proper tongue posture for the remainder of the
time. My chewing includes the spaces that my wisdom teeth are
supposed to come in. During the course of my 1.5 years of
mewing, I have noticed some changes, such as masseter and ramus
enlargement and correction of my slight overbite. I have never
had orthodontic treatment or extractions. I was a heavy
mouthbreather up to the age of around 9 (at nighttime due to
tonsil enlargement). I believe that I then learned to keep my
mouth closed, with minimal tongue posture, as I have never seen
any photograph of me with facial narrowing or elongation. I
only have one crowded lower incisor, while the rest of my teeth
are straight. My left maxillary wisdom has begun to come
through straight, as of May, while the other is yet to come.
Both my mandibular wisdoms do seem to be mildly impacted by a
       couple millimeters.
Is there anything I can do to un-impact my wisdoms over the
course of the next few years, while pushing my maxilla upwards
and forwards and making my mandible more horizontal and parallel
to the floor? I haven't grown in height since the age of
13.5-14. I also have a non prominent chin: it is not
projecting, nor is it receding or retruded.
I'm pretty sure that my parents will make me extract my wisdoms,
should they remain impacted. They don't seem to understand the
harmful effects of extracting teeth, and they fear inflammation
and infection of the wisdoms if not extracted.
       ----------------------------------------------------------------
       ----------------------------------------------------------------
       -------------------------------------------
I also have a sister who is turning 9 in a couple of weeks. She
has had an open mouth posture for most of her childhood, and
still has it now, due to adenoid hypertrophy. Her palate is
very narrow, and she shows facial lengthening and narrowing, and
a tooth pattern that seems like a class 2 division 1
maloclussion. She has very crowded lower incisors. I have
urged her to do proper tongue posture, but she finds it very
difficult, and still has her lips and teeth apart. She also
fails to be diligent in chewing gum one hour per day. Is there
anything that I can do to improve her condition? My parents are
       considering conventional orthodontics for her.
Please feel free to ask for any other details and I can provide
my dental x ray (from 1 year ago) if necessary

       Read this:
  HTML http://www.debugyourhealth.com/orthodontics-and-cranial-structure/<br
/>. It was posted from a fellow user a few days before, pretty
interesting read. And here with tongue they used something that
will keep it on the top like something sticky, I mean read it,
you are not going to regret it. Then again, I dont expect that
you will start the procedures like the massages in the topic
since you are only her brother and not a parent and they most
likely wont trust you or believe you.
She most likely might often be with stuffed nose and not be able
to breath through it. Plus not only that, I have told the thing
about the maxilla to at least 6 adults my age and no one cares
even the slightest. Just one took interest, but he just listened
to what I told him about tongue and posture and does it, but has
not researched the topic himself in any way. Even my ex, who
studies orthodontic and teeth medicine(literal translation sorry
lol), has worn orthodontic devices for 8 years, which were
removed like a year ago and has no place for her teeth, so they
start moving the moment she stops wearing those devices and her
doctor wants to remove some of her teeth to make place. Despite
this, she has absolutely no interest in orthotropics, tongue
posture etc. My point is, what is left for a kid, pretty small
chance she realises what you are trying to tell her, so she can
be like oooohhh and start doing it with motivation. So try to
convince your parents of the orthotropics and that most likely
wont definitely be easy. Last resort, speak with the
orthodontist himself, get out of your comfort zone(saying it in
case you are pretty shy, but want to do the right thing), search
for an orthodontist who believes in what the orthotropics teach,
some users of this site have managed to find such people. But I
believe that you should work with your parents in the first
place. And if she has stuffed nose, dont use bought medicine,
there are some pretty good ways to wash the nose, which I still
havent done though, so read about them.
So, considering I saw absolutely amazing results from chewing
gum for 6 months(not to me, but to another fella) I have been
wondering how so many of you chew gum but barely have results,
because that dude changed the shape of his whole head for such a
short time. And I just came to realisation. The point of chewing
gum is to streghten the muscles which in turn reshape the face.
Thing is, I realised, most of you are not in caloric surplus but
just chewing and just like any other muscle most likely those
masseter muscles neither get bigger nor stronger (same reason my
squat and bench press have stayed the same for a whole year, but
man I need to eat 5 times a day for a surplus), so you are just
doing nothing. So for your case, try to enter a surplus, at the
same time start lifting if you are not, because in my opinion
being in caloric surplus is much much harder than lifting, so
       hey, dont miss the opportunity.
Another thing, if your sister is that bad, I dont know how wise
it is to chew gum everyday like this. When the maxilla is
recessed is not in optimal position for chewing and here comes
the TMD, what happened to me on the second day, popped my TMJ.
Since she is just 9, start with tongue I guess.
Also, sadly, I have no idea about the wisdom teeth. I have been
wondering the same, since I am already in the age in which they
come out, but still havent had any pain. I wonder if the are
impacted or even when my maxilla is narrow if there is place,
since I also dont wont to remove them. But since yours are
already impacted, I dont know man, I dont see how if you dont
remove them, you are going to straighten them, so they dont make
a problem and if inflammation starts etc. But hey, dont let that
make you sad, I just dont know, not saying that there is no way,
       just keep searching..

       @ TheNo0n3
Thank you for your reply and advice. I will start with tongue
posture for my sister and then see if it is possible for chewing
gum after that. I actually live 10 minutes from an orthotropist
in my area, so I do believe that can be very advantageous. I
also contacted Dr. John Mew about this and he recommended
       teaching her Buteyko breathing.
I have certainly seen results with mewing, particularly growth
in the back of my jaw, fixing my mild overbite, and maybe some
more cheekbone prominence. My mandibular wisdoms are not stuck
yet, but appear to be growing in a path that can obstruct their
complete eruption, and I have faith that I can do something
       about this.
It is very upsetting to see the lack of interest that adults
have in this. I know that if I ever meet someone special in the
future, and decide to have children, I will diligently make sure
that they practice proper oral posture, chew well, eat very
nutritious foods, and grow tall, in order to never have them
repeat my adolescence filled with intense self consciousness and
       self hate.
It seems to me that those who do not seem to show interest to
this have fallen victim to the "all facial growth is genetic"
assumption. This is clearly not true, as my grandfather had a
large jaw and both broad and protruding maxilla, my grandmother
has an even larger jaw and very broad maxilla, while my mother
and her sister both have deficient jaws and crowded teeth.
Another example of this is that I have the most protruding and
large maxilla and mandible in my immediate family, larger than
both of my parents and, of course, my sister.
I do believe that adult change is possible, it is just that
there may be more factors at play to create change and cause
some to be more prone to change than others. I will be taking
part in some of my own experiments, to help to finally figure
this out and settle this once and for all.

For gum, Falim Mint on Amazon (for pp pieces for 8$) is great! I
just got it today and it's way easier and better tasting than
mastic, not to mention cheaper and faster to arrive.

       @MeltedFace
Oh I've just been chewing 3 pieces at regular gum at once. I
thought falim is softer than mastic, and I am looking for the
       hardest chew possible.

It is, but it is harder than regular :D

Mastic is what I have, but it becomes more soft Han the falim
over time with chewing. The Falim almost has this plasticy
resistance feeling, and if you doubled it up you'd get a lot of
toughness I think. Aside from that, you might want to peek at
the Jawzercise that I bought. I can't even use mine because my
       jaws are too weak!

       @MeltedFace
I've heard about the jawcersizer. Is it really worth the money?
It seems uncomfortable to use, as one cannot put it in their
mouth and chew as they would with gum.

Some user here suggested rubber tubes for chewing. Apparently
they're used in myofunctional therapy. Might be worth a try if
       money is an issue.

       @ Progress
How would I chew these tubes? Do I cut it into chewing gum-like
       sizes?
I also hear that Dr. Mike Mew gives special gummies to his
       patients for treatment.
