My Self-NCR Diary
DIR By: angelo22

---------------------------------------------------------
Hi, I'll start recording my NCR experiences in this thread. Hope
it'll be helpful to some people.
Equipment I use:
- Sphygmomanometer (only the bulb)
- Latex gloves (for now I settled for standard lab gloves,
cutting the fingers off them. Might shop online for finger cots
later.)
- Q-tip (For pushing the balloon inside the nose.)
- Olive oil (For lubrication. First thing I could think of...
also it smells good.)
- Dental floss (For tying the balloon to the bulb.)
I've gathered the impressions of my first 12 tries in a PDF
format, if someone's interested:
HTML http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=21235388379282587443
Now it's no longer necessary to record every single session,
since I've gotten comfortable with the procedure.
Here are the main points I think are important to self-treat
successfully:
1. For getting the balloon in place: it's very helpful, while
inflating gently, to both pinch the nostril and,
as Progress suggested, use the back of you tongue to press
against the palate.
Pushing with the back part of the tongue hits the soft
palate, so it really makes it easier for the balloon to go up.
2. (Allnicc12 pointed that out) When the balloon is almost
there, that's the time to increase the pressure,
so that the balloon will have to escape the turbinate and
expand rapidly in the upper throat (Nasopharynx)
and hit the sphenoid with as much force as possible.
After that plateau, the balloon will go down and give a
choking feeling (at least it does for me) until you deflate
(that is, immediately ;)).
Just not too much force...there's the risk of the balloon
detaching from the bulb and getting stuck in the nose...
It happened to me only once, and since it was still in the
turbinate I blew it off, but things could get more serious. The
tying part is really important!
3. I'm personally still using snipped fingers from latex gloves
instead of finger cots, but I think I'll soon get those and try
them...
It's been suggested that the cots are slightly thicker than
the latex gloves. That might probably help provide more pushing
force.
4. Be really mindful of your oral posture! It is of the essence.
I don't personally think facepulling is required. Proper oral
AND head posture should be enough, given that NCR already makes
it easier.
Also, I think of it like calisthenics vs using heavy
weights...
You can't hurt yourself with bodyweight exercises, but if
you're not careful you can with heavy lifting (that might yield
quicker results).
And a tongue is much weaker than two hands :)

Hi, what youve done is pretty much accurate because ur ears
popped, people get put off by this because generally the cot
isnt pushed far back enough through the turbinate and then
inflate it in the turbinate which feels like its goin to burst
in the turbinate, best way is to push the cot as far back as u
can til you reach empty space and then try an push the cot with
the q tip slightly dwn into the top throat, once u get the feel
of where the top part of the throat is you cant go wrong getting
the cot there, ive even just stuck the q tip in my turbinate few
times jus to get a feel of where the top part of the throat is,
once youve mastered that its a simple case of quickly inflating
few times with bulb and the cot has no problem ever reaching the
spheniod, its jus practice.

Cool, I started self treatment today too. Couldn't really reach
the open space, but inflating deep inside the turbines did
result in a few audible cracks nevertheless.

Added day 2.
Also, how do I do spoilers here, if possible? The first post
will probably get long..
Anyway, I guess the first times it's common not to be sure if
I'm doing it properly :)

Once your in the turbinate or nostril keep pushing through til u
reach the end and then aim slightly down youll then be in the
top part of the throat, once youve mastered that youll do it all
the time and position the cot perfectly everytime, once youve
done that quickly press the bulb bout 3/4 times or til both ears
pop and then release it, youll hit the sphenoid everytime, again
practice putting the q tip in ur nostril on its own to find/feel
where the top part of your throat is, youll know when your
there, once mastered that do it with the cot etc

In the guide it says to actually inflate in the turbinate area /
nasal cavity and not in the back? It seems to make sense to
inflate further back though ???

I think a gentle inflation in the turbinate helps keeping the
balloon straight, to prevent folding or similar events.

Added day 3.
Today the experience was not pleasant, so I'll stop until I feel
ready again. Hope it's just a few days.
I've been as detailed as I could with describing what I did, so
I hope someone more experienced can give me some pointers :)
If you're new to this, I advice you to watch this video, as it
illustrates very well the anatomy of the nose:
HTML https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJEenATGwg8
Also, you could look for videos of nasal probes to get a better
idea.
I have something that bothers me though: as I wrote in the main
post, I do feel an "expansion" but only on the right. I don't
feel like doing it in the left nostril again, but could it be
detrimental to stop now?
Or should I try to balance the sensation? Mind that I'm having a
more difficult time reaching the sphenoid from my right side.

If it feels like the balloon is going too deep into the throat,
you can deflate a bit, pull back a few millimeters and then
inflate again. Breaks are fine, they shouldn't be detrimental.
The writer of the self treatment guide often had 1-2 week breaks
if things got too sore. No one even recommends daily sessions in
the first place.
