       Improving facial structure
   DIR By: MJON

       ---------------------------------------------------------
Hi guys, basically, I have not had any previous orthodontic
work, so I have all my 28 teeth. But I only chewed on one side
for years (right side). As a result I now have TMJ on the well
developed right side of my face, and on the left my eye is
slightly droopy, my nose is slanted to that side and my teeth
       have overlapped on the left.
I have a big nose and forehead, sticky out chin and tired
looking eyes. Generally looks like my face has slipped down.
I went to the doctors and they said basically don't eat chewy
foods. What a joke! s i began my own research.
From my research I understand I need the following :
-NCR to help overall with putting my facial features where
       they're supposed to be.
-palate expansion to get rid of the overlap, as I'm hoping a
bigger upper palate will make my nose and chin seem less big in
       comparison.
-face pulling to make sure when my palate is expanding, rather
than the good side dropping, the bad side come up and forward to
meet the good side, therefore stopping the popping joint in my
       jaw.
-once that is done, chewing and correct tongue posture to hold
       it all in place.
I've recently got a palate expander from a German website (very
good, would recommend) that cost me £150, and reverse pull
       headgear.
       Few questions:
       1. I'm doing -NCR but find the finger cots too small to reach
where theyre supposed to. Anybody know what the right type to
       use is?
       2. Hard and fast Vs. slow and steady - seems to be a conflict in
opinions on which face pulling technique is best. I'm
considering the slow and steady one currently as I've seen an
article where a woman in her 20s had results wearing headgear
attached to braces for 20 hours a day. Also, this occurred over
years and not like I woke up one morning with a collapsed
maxilla, so I'm guessing it'll take a while to fix it.
       3. Other ways to fix assymmetry? I just want to smile and it be
       the same on both sides.

You are good to go. Just remember that the main reason why we
are underdeveloped is because of poor nutrition, bad habits and
lack of activity so add those to your plan in order to maximize
       your changes

Thanks improvement, I think mine is mostly due to the chewing on
one side and poor mouth posture. I've been doing it for years.
Green apple, I'm definitely considering the ALF but for now it's
not an option for me financially as I am a student.
I've been wearing the palate expander for about 4 days now,
roughly 10 hours a day (overnight and then a little in the day)
and face pulling from the back molars for about 30 minutes a
       day.
A good point about it is because I'm using my tongue to keep it
in place as like a second nature reflex, when I take it out it's
much easier to keep my tongue up there. I am also finding
similar to TMJ when I take it out my teeth feel like they're in
a different position, but in a better way rather than worse. I
especially feel this after face pulling.

Hi MJON how is it going? Any good results from your treatment?
By the way!, I'm curious about that German website where you
bought your palate expander, would you mind showing it?

       Hey improvement,
Think it's too early to tell yet. I'm wearing my palate expander
a lot, but I haven't got a set routine with expanding it because
of the types of screws- I just go on intuition and expand if it
feels okay and tighten again if its too much. My reverse pull
headgear came, tried wearing it over night- and failed. Only
ended up wearing it for a few hours.
Does anyone know if they have negative effects? Because I can
feel it pushing back on my lower jaw more than it pulling my
       upper one forward.
As for -NCR, I've had improvement here- I couldn't treat the
right side properly for months due to my nose deviating the
opposite way. But yesterday i managed it, and now have slightly
better breathing there. Its only small but its still something.
It wont let me post pictures of my expander, this is the one i
       have

Yeah, they mainly sell fake braces. Funnily enough, they also
sell fully functioning palate expanders with screws, retainers
and other otho equipment. They even send impressions kits, so
it's made to measure. Someone on CP's forum, also got the 'Y
Plate' expander, but there are other ones, too.
Problem is, you'd be overseeing your own treatment, essentially.
How would you know if it was going wrong? Might be worth asking
a willing, ortho to check on your progress, if any of us try
       this.
Certainly with me, my lower teeth are crowded, but my bite is
ok, so if I just got an upper expander, I'd mess it up. That
said, I'm seriously considering getting something from there..

It's so weird, it was a bit of a gamble buying it because I
didn't know if the screws would actually function! Yes they sent
me an impression kit first so it fits my mouth perfectly.
I am slightly worried about that, but I'm generally going on the
assumption that many orthodontists aren't going to treat me
properly anyway, as my teeth are near perfect, its just my jaw
that's the problem. I would like professional help, and I will
get it when I'm older and can afford it, but for now I'm just
going to have to try improve it myself whilst I'm still young.
I'm also being very slow and steady with this, and if something
hurts, I stop. I'm just hoping to relieve my TMJ- facial
       improvement will be a bonus.
I'm all for self treating because let's face it, we've done
quite a bit of research, and many orthos are still doing
       extractions!

MJON, do you find the acrylic of the expander, is bulky or
affecting proper tongue posture? Then again, I guess they all
do, unless they're ALF and it's hard to find anyone who offers
it (plus, costly). You're right though-many ortho's are still
       extracting, unfortunately...
Really hope it goes well for you :) Let us know how you
       progress!

Damn ordering from them will take months to my country and will
cost too much :'( I guess that I have to convince an ortho from
       here
