Should I have orthodontic work done before I start face-pulling?

I am 19 years old. i have a cross-bite, with spaces between my
teeth. My teeth are small. Should I have braces? Should I use
something like Damon braces or would standard be fine? I have
also been face-pulling (with my thumbs) for 6 days. Is this
dangerous? Should I have the work done before I attempt
something like this?

You don't want to use standard for a number of reasons. I have
Damon and they seem to be working great though If i had to do it
again I think i would go for ALF. Remember talk to your ortho
and make sure hes on board with what your doing or else they
might do things that impede your progress. I would also take a
look at this site
HTML http://claimingpower.com/.
Great site lots of
new info on all these subjects we talk about here. Much luck to
you mate.
Also no one i know of has heard of face-pulling with your thumbs
being dangerous. You just don't want to pull too hard and
fatigue your face otherwise you will lose much progress. Spread
your face-pulling sessions out if you feel your face fatiguing
early.

In conjunction. When the jaws move, ocklussion probably will be
affected which may lead to malocclusion. Having someone who
oversees your progress and who works with expansion and such
while using the Crane (or w/e) would probably be a better and
more safe approach. I messed my occlusion up by doing expansion
myself at first. Led to DDS and malocclusion de luxe.
