CHAPTER 8: NAPOLEON INCREASES CONTROL
By: Mayorcitobookworm Date: January 11, 2016, 10:03 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
The chapter shows Napoleon increasing his control
over the animals by a variety of means. Here we continue to see
the parallels between events on Animal farm and events in Europe
before and during the Second World War. The following question
looks for specific language information: Which words or phrases
in the last two paragraphs of this chapter do you think are
ironic? why?

Well...From my point of view, the first ironic phrase is
"Squealer, temporarily stunned, lay on the ground nearby were a
flashlight, a brush and a jar of paint" because the character
Squealer was trying change the words in a rule of "The seven
commandments" to animals believe otherwise. Also, this action was
wrote with a comic tone because the pig suffered a painful fall
in his tried. The second "None of the animals even understands"
because the objetive of the action of Squealer was easy to
understand but that express that the animals was blinded by
Napoleon as the people in some places of Europe during the
Second World War.Finally, "No animal shall drink alcohol to
excess" because this contradicts agreed earlier on alcohol. All
this can be compared with the
events during the Russian Revolution and the Second World War.

In this chapter shows a Napoleon that takes drastic measures for
follow with the control in the farm. The pig is more related to
men. He tried to convince the animals said that the field was
exhausted and needs reseeding, only for calm his new vice. I
believe that the phrases are: "The dogs immediately made a ring
round Squealer, and escorted him back to the farmhouse as soon
as he was able to walk" I consider this because it is not
necessary that Squealer was escorted with the dogs or he tried
to hide something, Also"No animal shall drink alcohol to
excess.", Why?? ??? , because at first he said only men drank
alcohol and always was considered, and now says " to excess" is
casually ironic because its the same , is only making excuses
that he drinks whisky now. :o ::) :D

the phrase that is ironic is the commandment that say: ‘No
animal shall drink
alcohol to excess.’ i think that is ironic, because the pigs
change or add some words in the commandment for justify your
imprudence
in the original commandments. also, this action of the pigs is
bad, because the pigs and dogs abuse your power in the farm.

I belief, that in the eight chapter exist two phrases. The first
is: "Squealer, temporarily stunned, was sprawling beside it, and
near at hand there lay a lantern, a paintbrush and an overturned
pot of white paint", because in burlesque way implies the
innocence, the lack of knowledge and ignorance from the rest of
animals, such as rescue the loyalty to Napoleon. In the same
way, the second phrase is: "No animal shall drink alcohol to
excess.', as Squealer change the fifth commandment of the laws
from the Farm, but when handling the mind of the animals got
avail and he establishes a new politic according to the
interesting from the pigs.

I think that the ironic phrases are: "Squealer, temporaly
stunned" because he disobeyed one of the Animal Farm rules that
was "No animal shall drink alcohol" and tried to change it. Also
the phrases "There were two words that they had forgotten" and
"There occurred a strange incident which hardly anyone was able
to understand because animals exactly remembered the Fifth
Commandment as Benjamin understood, but they didnt believed that
Squealer changed it in spite of being sprawling with a lantern,
a paint brush and a pot white paint near the Commandments and it
clearly shows that animals were cheated by pigs as Napoleon and
Squealer. This actions shows in which size Stalin cheated his
people in the Russian Revolution.

From my point of view, the actions of Napoleon were fairly
drastic to improve control over farm animals, also clearly it is
shown that pigs acted as men, taking each of their vices. Thus,
there are two phrases that seem ironic; the first is "The dogs
immediately made a ring round Squealer, and escorted him back to
the farmhouse..." because it shows how Squealer was escorted as
a foremost authority in Europe, with armed soldiers and the
expectation of the threat. Second one,"No animal shall drink
alcohol to excess", because it shows the alteration of one of
the seven commandments of the farm, which add "to excess", which
argues that animals begin to take the actions of men.

I think that this phrase is ironic "Benjamin, who nodded his
muzzle with an air of knowing, and seemed to understand, but
would say nothing", it shows a sector of socialist Russia
realized what was happening, I can inferiri that this class is
the aristocratic class to be a class that was more polite, but
the very fact of being aristocrat we referred to the book "El
jardín de los cerezos", where an education but arisocracia shows
a loose attitude to what is happening in their society, that I
find it ironic and more when we know that this class is
represented by Benjamin.

However, the second sentence is "No Animal Shall drink to excess
alcohol," because it shows how little by little is changing the
truth of things and contradicts what was agreed at the beginning
of the story where the seven commandments are mentioned since
only men drank alcohol, besides the pigs can not read change or
add some words to justify their recklessness and ignorance. :P

From my point view, I find ironic this phrase "The dogs
immediately made to ring round Squealer", since Squealer as is
understood, had changed the fifth commandment. However, after
falling and be "temporarily stunned" is seen to be discovered by
other animals. Then he receives the support and backing of the
dogs, who act as gatekeepers to him and also impose fear to
other animals, so as to avoid possible questions.
I also consider ironic "but there were two words that they had
forgotten", this is because Squealer again managed to confuse
the animals(as Muriel) on the commandments, into believing that
his memory had failed. It is as well as he can use this
"commandment" in favor of the pigs.
