In the section about Pauline Boty's father, there are words
supposedly spoken by him (p. 249. paperback). "Desirable? a
semi?" What exactly do they refer to?

Hi, i am Poli, Bulgarian translator of Autumn. I also have some
issue with - Desiderable? semi? I can`t quite understand the
connection - if semi is for semi-detached house, how you
understand the meaning of these two words together?

Hi Poli! The way I understand it, her father, an accountant with
bourgeois values, imagines that what is desirable for Pauline is
a semi-detached house (presumably with a husband and children
inside) not an uncertain career of an artist.
