BoH Book Club

It's here! It's here!
So a good number of people were interested in this, so we're
going to work on getting this up and running.
The first big question we need to tackle is format. there are a
couple of options:
1. Dividing a book into sections and having weekly readings
assigned followed by discussion.
2. Assigning a book for the month and discussing at the end of
it.
As well, we need to discuss access to books. Is there anyone who
doesn't have ready access to a library? We can try to find free
ebooks online as well. Used book stores are also great for
finding cheap books, though their inventory is not consistent
and rather. Regardless the books we choose need to be readily
available to everyone.
As far as timelines go, I would like to have a two week
suggestion period followed by two week voting period. After that
I would like to give everyone a month to get the book, as
libraries sometime have waiting lists, and scouting used book
stores are also a source that require research (if some wish to
pursue that as an option). However, as with pretty much
everything about this, I'm open to feedback and discussion!

I think it's better if we do the "read the book in a month, and
then we talk about it", since people read at different speeds
and times, so one might be unable to read the book for a whole
week but catch up quite fast the week after.
I concur with the two week voting period, but I'd cut down
suggestions to one week. I think a month is good enough time to
get the book. Speaking of acquiring books, I think everybody is
going to be able to get them as long as they're not too rare.
Everybody can find The Book of Lost Tales (J.R.R. Tolkien) with
a bit of effort, but very few may find the Alexander Romance.

I agree that reading a book each month would be good, then
discussing it. I might also say that finding the book should
depend on which book we pick? if we choose one that has a free
online ebook, then people really only need a week or so. If it's
one we need to visit the library to get it, then a month makes
more sense. And I'd lean towards one week for suggestions and
one/two for voting.
Otherwise, really excited this is getting started!

We can always try to stick to Public Domain books, as most
Public Domain books that haven't been lost to time are on
Project Gutenburg's website for free.

OMG THIS LINK IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! I kinda overreacted in chat
when it happened, but this is awesome! I never knew about it!
I love the idea of using something like this as a book list to
take ideas from. That way, once we decide on the book, everyone
already HAS the book. This is awesome!

Sorry for leaving this hanging for so long.
Since it seems there are quite a few people interested in
Gutenberg/online books in general, I am going to suggest that
for the moment suggestions need to be online only. The
convenience will make it quite easy for everyone to have access
to the same book.
Suggestions are now open until January 24. Voting will take
place from January 25 to to 31. You can start reading on
February 1.
With your suggestion(s), please include a link to where you
found it online.
