Re: Beacons (and friends) D&D Chat Group

Okay. I need to ask everyone in Group one this (and still need
Group two to get back to me on stuff like when they can play and
other important little factoids).
Star most likely cannot rejoin the sessions until March. I am
completely fine with postponing the games until then so that
everyone can play if that's what the party wants to do. Or we
can write her out of the game temporarily (she was called back
to handle important family matters or desired to improve her
skills away from the party and set out to a well-known training
place for a while) and we continue with the gameplay as normal.
There are pros and cons to both options.
Option one pros: Everyone can experience the same gameplay and
the party can keep the fun dynamic that it has now (and on a
selfish note, it gives me time to get everything done).
Option one cons: That's a solid month where no one is playing,
which some people might not like.
Option two pros: There's no delay in the game, and Star can
easily be written back in.
Option two cons: Aside from the fact that everyone will just
plain miss her, if the party is in a place where writing Star
back in would be awkward, there might be games where she has to
sit out for the majority of them.
I'm perfectly fine with both options, so I'll leave it to the
party to decide.

I'm fine with either, since my character has to be written in
sometime anyway.

I am also fine with either (although I'm sorry that I'm going to
be missing the possible sessions for a while).
And if you guys to move ahead without me, I'm sure we'll be able
to figure out a way for Astraea to rejoin the group. Maybe
Elryn/Kal can have an artifact or something to let her know if
he gets in trouble?

Say true, I do not mind waiting a month. Especially since my
workload is hefty at the moment.

With D's vote making it officially 'most' of Group 1, I'm going
to call it as waiting until March-ish (because I don't actually
know when Star's robotics thing will be done) to resume the
sessions.

So. Another vote for you lot. The last session, in the chat box
it was almost unanimously agreed that Dungeons & Dragons:
DragonFable needs to be a thing.
Starflame(Astraea): A box with a name.
Starflame(Astraea): *applauds*
Draketh99: *runs from sneevils*
Draketh99: *applauds Ging*
Starflame(Astraea): *goes to rescue him fron sneeviles*
Starflame(Astraea): Nice job, Gin!
GM Gingkage: NO SNEEVILS ON THIS TABLE! *DM hammers them away*
GM Gingkage: Though that would be the most AWESOME game of DnD.
Dungeons & Dragons: DragonFable.
Draketh99: 0.0
Starflame(Astraea): That would be great... I'll bet SOMEONE has
written a campaign for that.
Draketh99: That needs to be a thing...
GM Gingkage: It does, D.
GM Gingkage: I wonder if copyright laws get in the way...
Starflame(Astraea): Not if you don't publish it, I'd guess
Draketh99: Not if we kept it for personal use
Draketh99: *sticks Geo under a rock, just in case*
Starflame(Astraea): *climbs on top of the rock*
GM Gingkage: Sticking a rock under a rock?
GM Gingkage: It's BRILLIANT!
Draketh99: ROCKCEPTION
GM Gingkage: It's the last place anyone would think to look.
GM Gingkage: Hidden in plain sight.
Draketh99: To hide a tree, use a forest
Draketh99: To hide Geo, use gravel
Starflame(Astraea): Hiding in the crowd?
GM Gingkage: But then no one would see the forest for the
trees.
So, here's a snippet of conversation from chat about that:
Gingkage: And for the record, as much as it needs to be a
thing, I currently have no plans on running Dungeons and
Dragons: DragonFable. 15:47
Starflame: Aw... alright, Gin. Yeah, that'd take up a LOT of
time. 15:47
Gingkage: Star, I can't do DF justice. 15:48
Gingkage: DF is a fun, lighthearted, punny game. 15:48
Gingkage: I can't pun to save my life. 15:48
Starflame: You can always poke Chis or D to start another water
pun battle. 15:49
Gingkage: I came this close to it, though. Even had an intro
written up in my head about how all of Lore knew the story of
the hero. But that that wasn't this story and so on and so
forth. 15:49
Gingkage: Your first battle was gonna have Sneevils and
everything. 15:49
Starflame: That would be awesome! You should at least write down
the ideas, and maybe ask some people to contribute? 15:50
Gingkage: Really, the deciding factor against it is that there's
no way to mesh a DnD adventure with the one y'all just had, so
y'all would have had to start all over again at level one after
just having leveled. 15:50
Gingkage: Unless I did some wibbly-wobbly timey whimy stuff.
15:51
Gingkage: By which I mean 'transdimensional portals.' 15:51
Starflame: Ah... yeah. You could have Dr. When show up and whisk
us away. 15:51
Starflame: Or Cysero. 15:51
Gingkage: I'll think about it. On the one hand, it would mean
that I can't use the beginnings of an idea forming in my brain,
but on the other, it'd be a lot of fun. 15:54
Gingkage: Or... Hm... if I brought in some AQ monsters to
supplement the bare-bones idea, treat this as a 'the parts of
Lore that no one sees' type of thing for any and all dungeon
crawls, and... tweak Lore a mite... 15:56
Gingkage: Theoretically, it could work. 15:56
Gingkage: For example, I put in a bunch of goblin monsters and
name them 'Sneevils' instead of 'goblin' and there you go.
Instant DF monster. 15:57
Gingkage: Since, you know, AE takes a lot of things from DnD and
just renames them. 15:57
Starflame: That works. Honestly, as long as you don't make us
fight Seppy... 15:57
Gingkage: Like the 'BURPs' from AQ, are essentially Dire Rats.
15:57
Gingkage: And Chaosweavers aren't that different from Driders.
15:58
Starflame: There are so many monsters, I'm not surprised some
ideas are taken from other places 15:58
Gingkage: There's an AQ monster that I can't remember what it's
called since I doubt they used the DnD name since WOTC (Wizards
of the Coast) patented it, but it's very obviously a beholder.
15:58
Starflame: A lot of my magic cards are illustrated by WOTC 15:59
Gingkage: AE also borrows from other sources. The Bacon saga was
essentially the Trials of Herculese (however his name is
spelled). Or was it Heraclese? from... Greek? mythology The
DragonsGrasp quest line? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock
Holmes. There are even a couple LOTR references. 16:00
Starflame: Hercules is from Greek Mythology, but I don't think
that's copyright infringement :p 16:01
Gingkage: And in AQ, there's a mini 'Wolf Riders' quest chain
which I personally think is a reference to ElfQuest. 16:01
Gingkage: It has to be Greek mythology. Zeus. 16:02
Gingkage should have known that 16:02
Starflame: Well, Greek and Roman do get mixed up quite a bit.
16:02
Gingkage: And I heard once that the Tog Riders from the
Popsprocket war was in there because Alina loves ElfQuest and
was putting in a reference to that. 16:03
Gingkage: Well, that's probably because there was some
'god-stealing' in there. 16:03
Gingkage: Either the Romans stole the Greek gods, or the Greeks
stole the Roman gods. 16:04
Gingkage shrugs because history is very confusing and boring to
her 16:04
Ƈħįşāģėŋ: I think the
Romans stole from the Greeks 16:05
Gingkage: Probably. The Romans were the famous conquerers, after
all. 16:06
Starflame: Greeks came first, at least in mythology. 16:06
Ƈħįşāģėŋ: I always
guessed that The Romans came after the Greeks 16:06
Gingkage: All I know is that one of them conquered the other and
then proceeded to steal their gods. 16:06
Gingkage wonders what kind of geek/nerd it makes her that she's
rambling excitedly about all the myths and stories and DnD
monsters that AE includes in their games 16:08
As you can see, while I don't actually have plans to bring DnD
into the world of Lore, it's not, theoretically, a difficult
thing to do. It would not, however, be purely DragonFable. It
would take place in Lore, during DF timeline, but by and large,
there won't be much 'DF' in the game beyond the monsters and
maybe the mention of some of the NPCs. It would be DnD, loosely
set in the world of DragonFable. So, I'll put it to a vote.
Would you rather just do straight DnD, or DnD very loosely set
in Lore (because I wasn't kidding, I can't pun to save my life)?
Some examples of what I mean by 'very loosely':
If, later in the game, I need to, for whatever reason, put a
Beholder in the game, as far as I know, there's no 'Beholder'
like monster in DF, but there is one in AQ. So I'd throw in that
particular monster.
With the exception of the random quests with the ever changing
maps (such as the Neverglades) and I suppose a small handful of
other quests like the Swordhaven Sewers, or Blackwyn Tomb, there
are no real 'dungeons' in DF. DnD is called Dungeons and Dragons
for a reason, so this would essentially be taking place in an
unexplored part of Lore. You might hear whispers of the actual
storyline (wonderful, spine tingling tales of how the hero rode
on the back of a huge dragon to defeat the monster that ate the
sun; how Lore was almost destroyed at the hands of a great and
terrible fire death monster, worried whispers of this oddly
named group 'The Rose' etc), but you won't actually be
participating in the storyline proper. This would really,
honestly, and truly be its own adventure, far away from the
familiar towns of Falconreach, Ravenloss, Battleon. If I decide
to name a town
'Magicisthemostawesomestthingsincebeforeslicedbread' then that's
what I'm gonna name it, even though there is no such town in the
game itself (though I promise right now to never name a town
that).
I might perhaps, have you in a quest in "The Locker" but it
wouldn't be called that, and you wouldn't find Davey Jones, or
Aquella next to a sunken ship at the end.
There's no rush to decide since, as I said in the post above,
games are postponed until March-ish. And in case it's relevant,
despite what the second quote said, I did come up with a way to
make it work at level 2, so I wouldn't be making you all start
over from the beginning (though I doubt many of y'all would
complain over-much about the loss of one level).

It's an interesting idea. DnD:DF has ring to it and I wouldn't
be opposed to it. Also no need to worry about the puns we can
cover for that considering.
