Reputation (How to use & when)

Reputation
Reputation is essentially a tool for us to reward those members
who make good, thoughtful, and insightful posts in the forum.
Every time someone makes a post, on their little sidebar to the
left, you should notice a small + button under Reputation (the
symbol on the button will vary depending on the skin you're
using). Press the + button, and you will add 1 rep to the
poster. For simplicity's sake, I will continue to refer to
Reputation as "rep" from here on.
Good Reasons To Award Reputation
If you see a post that you feel deserves merit, then you have a
pretty solid reason to award rep to the poster in question! Now
you may be wondering, what exactly qualifies as a good post? It
can be a post that's informative, a post that's well written and
insightful, or a post that's simply kind and heartwarming. It's
a bit difficult to narrow down because just about any kind of
post can qualify for rep. Even posts that are silly, playful, or
even whimsical in nature can be very good posts. Just remember
that when you give rep to someone, you are awarding them. And
like all awards, rep should always be something that you have to
earn. That is the most important thing, and knowing that, I
think we should all be capable to handle this instrument
responsibly.
Bad Reasons To Award Reputation
For those not in the know, the main reason the Reputation Mod
was initially removed was due to abuse. It basically turned into
a popularity contest, where members awarded rep to their
friends, and usually for no good reason. So in other words, do
not rep someone just because they're your friends or you happen
to like them. Likewise, do not rep someone for a meaningless
post such as "I like Mario Party!" or "Cool topic bro".
Furthermore, do not rep posts that are mean spirited or
inflammatory, or any other post that goes against the Forum
Rules, as you're only encouraging that behaviour by doing so.
***
And there you have, more or less, the basics you need to know to
partake in this new modification! However, this being our second
attempt at this, we should inform you that we will be less
lenient, and those who abuse the rep system will receive a
suspension. It is our hope that no one will have to be punished,
and that rep is used responsibly and thoughtfully. Now have at
you!

Well, no, I changed that myself. I think that only admins can
change that.
