Your Adventure Companions -- MapleStory Pets!
MapleStory is about much more than simply going out and killing
monsters. There's all sorts of ways to play and different things
you can do including going on quests, filling in monster books,
and taking on a variety of challenges. With so much to see and
do, it makes sense that even the most independent of adventurers
might need help from time to time. That's where the mapleStory
pets come in. These adventure companions are more than merely
adorable fashion accessories (though they certainly are
adorable!) They actually provide important services and have
their own special gameplay dynamics that open up brand new ways
       to play MapleStory!
How Much is That Doggie in the Window?
The first thing to understand is that playing with a pet is
entirely optional. You can certainly play MapleStory without
one. If you ask many long-time Maplers though, they'll tell you
that once you've selected a pet, you'll never want to play
MapleStory without one. They're just too useful and fun!
       Selecting Your Pet
Pets are only available through the MapleStory Cash Shop. To
access the Pet Shop, simply click the red "Cash Shop" button at
the bottom of your screen. When the Cash Shop window comes up,
click on the "Pet" tab to look through the selection of pets
available for purchase. Pet types range from adorable critters
like Corgi pups and Persian cats to miniature MapleStory
monsters like a Yeti or a Kargo. There's even a miniature
version of Balrog, one of the major boss monsters in the game.
Note: It's important to note that while the personality of pets
may vary by type, there is no difference in pet abilities. Every
pet is capable of performing exactly the same functions, so the
most important choice you have when selecting is what kind of
pet works the best with your look and your character's
       personality!
Evolving Pets: There are two special pets available from the
Cash Shop. The "Evolving Pets" (Dragon and Robo) begin life as
an egg in your inventory. Once you purchase them, they
immediately hatch as baby versions of a dragon or a robot. As
you feed them, play with them, and level them up (see "Leveling
and Closeness" below), they will eventually hit level 15. At
that point you may visit Garnox the Pet Scientist to acquire a
new quest called "The Evolution of a Pet, Pt.1" Once you finish
the quest, you may return to Garnox with 10,000 mesos and "The
Rock of Evolution" (available in the Cash Shop) and they will
transform into their adult form. Other than this special effect,
however, evolving pets are identical to any other pet available
       from the Cash Shop.
       Care and Feeding
Your little pet isn't a robot. OK, some of them may in fact be
robots, but what we mean is that your pet has needs that must be
met. Their major needs are for food and "closeness."
       Closeness
Closeness is a measure of the bond between you and your pet. As
your pet's closeness increases, he, she, or it will more readily
respond to your commands and be able to perform more tricks. the
higher a pet's level, the more closeness it need to reach its
next level. The maximum level a pet can reach is 30.
There are several things you can do to raise your pet's
       closeness:
       - Spend time hunting monsters with your pet out.
       - Command your pet to perform actions. (A complete
list of pet commands is available from Cloy in Henesys Park and
you can also purchase command books from a pet food merchant for
       quick reference on the go.)
       - Complete pet quests in pet parks in Henesys and
       ludibrium.
       Food
The best way to increase closeness though is to make sure your
pet is always well fed. Your pet has a stat called "Fullness"
that can be seen in the Pet Equip screen. Fullness gradually
decreases over time. If Fullness ever reaches zero, your pet
will lose a tremendous amount of closeness. To keep this from
happening, you have to give it food. Regular pet food can be
purchased from Doofus in Henesys, Corporal Wilson around Orbis,
Patricia in Ludibrium, Laya in Mu Lung, and Moodie in Leafre.
Special pet-specific pet food is also available in the Cash
Shop. This pet food will add a great deal of closeness every
       time you use it.
       Water of Life
The last requirement for your pet is the Water of Life. Because
your pet is a magical creature, every 90 days it needs to be
refreshed with the Water of Life. Otherwise it turns back into a
doll into your inventory. Water of Life is available in the Cash
Shop. Double-click the Water of Life in your inventory and Mar
the Fairy will appear and give you the option to revive your
       little friend.
       What Can My Pet Do?
One of the best parts about having a pet is that they're able to
automate some of the repetetive and mundane tasks that
adventurers have to deal with. These mostly come down to three
basic categories: looting items, offering support during combat,
and being adorable. In order to perform these functions, your
pet must be equipped with various items available in the Cash
Shop under the "Pet Equips" category.
When you purchase a piece of pet equipment, it will first appear
in under the "Cash" tab in your inventory. In order to equip a
pet item, open your equipment inventory (Default key: "E") and
click on the "pet" button to open the pet equipment screen. Drag
the item you wish to equip onto the pet equip slot.
       Pet Equipment
Here's a list of some of the most useful pet equipment
       available:
Meso Magnet: Your pet will pick up mesos dropped by monsters as
       it passes by.
Item Pouch: Your pet will pick up items dropped by monsters as
       it passes by.
Auto HP Potion Pouch: With this item, your pet will
automatically use an HP potion when your HP drops below a
       certain level.
Auto MP Potion Pouch: With this item, your pet will
automatically use an MP potion when your MP drops below a
       certain level.

Wing Boots: With these boots, your pet will move by itself to
       pick up mesos and items.
Binoculars: Extends the range your pet will wander when
       equipped with Wing Boots.
Magic Scales: While using this item, your pet will pick up
items as they become publically available.
Item Ignore Pendant: This item allows you to tell your pet to
       not pick up certain items.
There are a number of other items available including pet
costumes and special effects, but those items only impart
       cosmetic effects.
       Follow the Leader
Finally, there's one more interesting thing you can do with pets
-- create you're own menagerie with their own special graphic
effect. If you purchase a "Pet Snack" from the Cash Shop and do
a jumping quest in Pet Park, you're pet will learn the "Follow
the Leader" skill. This allows you to have up to three pets
following you at any one time. Even better, if you choose three
pets of a particular category, you'll generate a large graphic
effect that will follow you around!
       Jungle Effect
Porcupine, Pink Bunny, White Bunny, Monkey, White Tiger
       Winter Effect
Rudolph, Husky, White Bunny, Penguin, Snowman
       Chatting Effect
Jr. Reaper, Robot, Turkey, White Bunny, Dino Boy, Dino Girl,
       Black Kitty, Brown Kitty

       Boss Effect
Jr. Balrog, Mini Yeti, Mini Kargo
       Dragon Effect
Baby Dragon, Black Dragon, Blue Dragon, Green Dragon, Red Dragon
       Yam Yam Effect
Brown Puppy, Black Pig, Skunk, Golden Pig, Black Bunny, Panda
       Robo Effect
Baby Robo, Blue Robo, Green Robo, Red Robo, Gold Robo, Gorilla
       Robo
       Onyx Dragon Symbol Effect
       Mir, Ruby
