I arrived home from work to hear Blake yell from upstairs in his
room "Mom! Help! Quick!" My heart was in my throat as I climbed
the stairs as quickly as I could on a bad knee! Ugh! He was
vomiting.
I placed a phone call to the GI team at CHP. They are guessing
that Blake is having side effects from the Methotrexate and
suggest that I give him Zofran to help with the nausea. They
all instructed me to take him to our local ER if things worsen.
That evening, Blake is still nauseated and complainig of stomach
pain. We decided that he needed to be seen in order to rule out
another pancreatitis attack.
Blood was drawn, IV fluids administered, and IV Zofran was
given.
Blake's Lipase counts are once again elevated. The ER Doctor
decided to consult with CHP to decide if Blake should be
transported to Pittsburgh for treatment or discharged and
allowed to go home and rest.
After consultation, they decide to discharge us with directions
to give Blake anti nausea medication and pain medication, as
needed. We were also told to give him plenty of fluids. If
he's not able to tolerate the fluids or pain worsens, then we
are to head to Pittsburgh.
Since Blake takes the Methotrexate injections weekly, we are to
give him Zofran 3 times a day starting the day before his
injection, the day off the injection and the day after.
Hopefully we can avoid the extreme nausea associated with the
medication!
