Note: Nether quartz ore blocks can only be mined with a pickaxe
enchanted with Silk Touch.

This will make it a lot harder to get, as it's a lot more risky
with all the lava and stuff. Unless you have fire protection,
then the nether is as easy as cake.

No duh, like every other ore block.
Yeah, having armor with fire protection would be a very good
idea. Also, you can still use an iron or diamond pickaxe. Its
recommended that you have a fortune 3 pick though.

I never said it had to be on the same tool.
IMO, it would just be better to fortune pick the ore when you
can do it safely. Then again, silk touching the ore allows you
to pack more of it into inventory.

The same link you posted has "When mined with any pickaxe, it
drops a Nether Quartz crystal" in it. It also says "Nether
Quartz Ore drops experience when mined, and works with both
Fortune and Silk Touch enchantments."

I think it's like coal and diamond ores, if you silk touch, you
get the ore block (nether quartz ore), otherwise, you get an
item drop like coal or diamond (nether quartz crystal).

imo the nethermap should be done without bedrock, netherrack,
slowsand (the huge brown areas on the first map), and all lava.

i don't like the name soul sand (not because of religious
references, it just makes no sense) so i use slow sand
