Putin tries to perpetuate his own power

Putin is getting older and sicker, so the issue of power
transition is very real, but any form of institutional
transition is impossible in this context. So how do you deal
with all this well the best solution is some kind of extreme and
extraordinary situation. In such cases those in power can
overcome any institutional or constitutional obstacles and make
whatever decisions they want to justify the state of emergency.
War may be the best way to create this situation. Given what you
said about the Kremlin's apparent lack of war strategy.
Do you know what Putin's goals are in Phone Number List

and whether he is interested in
negotiating to achieve them? There is no long-term strategy
behind this very ad hoc invasion. Once the regime's expediency
failed they apparently began inventing new causes and objectives
for the war after the fact. . We are faced with the very rare
situation of a country waging an aggressive war but having to
struggle to define its objectives or to explain those objectives
to public opinion. This is partly because the elites themselves
are confused about what to do and are desperately looking for a
way out. But now he can't find it.

The main problem now is not that I don’t want to negotiate but
that I don’t want to negotiate. The main problem is that
whatever you achieve through negotiations you cannot sell it to
the public as a victory given the huge dissatisfaction that
exists. This is why it is so difficult for the Russian elite and
the Russian government to reach an agreement. It's not just
about having to make a deal with Ukraine and the West that they
might do. They have to be able to sell any deal they do to
national opinion, which is a very difficult thing today.
Whatever the outcome will be, it will trigger a huge
moral-political-ideological crisis in the country and possibly
       even an insurrection.
