The Faded Gray
The Faded Gray was a beautifully seedy bar hidden in the depths
of Dawn Rift. Usually it was filled with the sounds of drunken
men and women loudly speak, arguing, and laughing as the cities
shadier characters met to hustle. For once the bar was empty,
the only people inside was the elderly bartender who inherited
the joint from previous generations and a man in a nice suit.
The silence of the bar was broken by the sounds of the lone
visual screen or VS, playing the live footage of the Coronation.
"Ah if I coulda gone, shame my legs aren't what they used ta be
or I'd be in that crowd cheerin." the bartender said as she
finished cleaning a glass and hobbled down to the end of the bar
to refill the mans shot glass. "Suhprised anyone even showed up
in here, even the shadiest of criminals were causin a fuss last
night to go." he added, prompting the younger male to simply
smile and pick up his glass. "I'm not much of a crowd person
Wilson, I'd much rather keep you company and watch the VS.
Rarely do I get to enjoy a silent bar." he answered, brushing a
lock of green hair from his face. The two fell silent as they
turned their attention to the VS. The green haired male rested
his head on his fist, lazily smiling as he thought about the
crowds excitement and glee, he almost wished he'd gone just to
be there in person to witness their elation turn to despair when
the so called Protector would be killed before their very eyes.
I must simply settle for enjoying this from a distance, after
all my entire lifes work shall soon begin. They have known peace
for far too long, it is time chaos to take hold." he thought and
sipped his drink. "Ah she's a young one, shame such a young
lifes gunna be the one to keep us safe. I hear her whole life
she's been sheltered up in the castle, training and such."
Wilson said, taking his own seat as the young Protector stepped
out onto the balcony and addressed the crowd. Wilson nodded with
pride as the girl strongly gave her speech "A brave soul she
is." he muttered. The green haired man stayed silent and
continued to watch. He set held his glass as the girl on screen
began to glow and lift up into the air The casual air around him
began to grow tense the the girl/magic/whatever began to speak
and the words that came out left him filled with a silent rage.
Wilson too stood in shock, but his gaze was drown to the back of
the mans head as he felt the tension grow. The glass fell from
his hand, shattering the tense air surrounding him, "Oh my, my
apologies Wilson..." he said, smiling apologetically as his more
casual demeanor returned. Wilson looked at him from a moment,
the tension that had been there a moment ago had felt cloying
and dangerous, but as it dispersed with the glasses fall he
chuckled nervously "No worries, I imagine finding out the young
gal isn't what we thought would make anyone slip up. Heck if I'd
been holding one i woulda dropped it too!" he said and his
chuckles relaxed as the other man kept smiling. Standing up from
his seat he went off to get the broom "I wonder whats to happen
now, with the girl I mean. I hope they won't just kick her to
the streets. Not her fault she aint the great savior. But I
wonder who is, it'll be mighty hard to find her I bet. They said
that girl was the only one born that night." Wilson rambled.
The young man got up from his chair and grabbed his suit jacket
"I too wonder what shall happen Wilson." he said and began
headed to the door "Unfortunately I must depart, another night
I'll treat you to a drink. After all who knows how the world she
react with this news." he paused at the door, and looked up at
the bright sky of Hellios. From the ground you could clearly see
the closest moon while the other two were faded images in the
sky due to distance. "Perhaps things will turn out differently.
After all the script is now in tatters and the world must
scramble to write an entirely new play with characters
unknown...." he thought and finally natural air of calm came
upon him as he stepped out of the bar and let the door close. He
walked down the deserted streets of Dawn Rift. "How foolish of
me to think this would start with controlled chaos. I'm excited
to see how this will play out."
As the capital began to panic an agent of chaos was smiling at
the wonderfully uncontrolled random turn of events. After all
the peace would never last.
