Google "WinFF". I use it to convert all my avi files to wmv.
Just make sure if you download it, your settings are:
Convert to ... : Microsoft.
Device Preset : WMV2 Generic

my requests are the Australia film starring Nicole Kidman and

I'm sorry, but I couldn't find Sherlock Holmes. Perhaps someone

I use Magic DVD ripper. It's an excellent DVD ripper. It rips
the whole movie, unlike some I've seen that only rip partial.
The only problem is you can only rip 5 free ones before you have
to register and pay. Just search "Magic DVD ripper" on google.
