Home Sweet Hovel
By: Catalin Date: December 10, 2013, 12:18 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Their home isn't too far from where they picked up Lilibeth, and
before long she's being carried through their front door. It's
a single-room affair, a water pump in one corner next to a pit
dug into the ground, a largely superfluous privacy screen
between it and most of the room. Set into one wall is a small
fireplace with some rudimentary cooking tools nearby as well as
an icebox. Occupying another corner is a pair of sleeping mats
placed close together. There's no floor aside from the soil.
"Over on one of the mats, please," Catalin says to his sister as
he goes to the pump, stumbling once on the way over. He kicks
the shoes off his earthen feet and grabs a bucket while she
carries the woman over to the mats, laying her across them and
spreading the blankets over her and a spare shirt under her
head. He reaches to the base of the pump and bends some water
out and into the bucket before carrying it over to their side.
"Oh sure, both of them? Fine."
Corelia blushes sheepishly and begins shifting her to only one
but Catalin stops her. "Thank you for doing this, Kitten," she
says to him softly.
"Thank me when I'm done. I might not be able to do it without
rest first." He shakes his head and kneels down. "I'll just
get this over with."
Catalin reaches his hands into the water. When he withdraws
them, they're covered in liquid gloves. He moves them to her
head at the site of her injury where they begin glowing,
applying his mending powers to the damaged area. As he works, a
small smile creeps onto his face. Though it's certainly not
something he goes out of his way to do, applying his healing
arts always did fill him with a special feeling that was never
matched by almost anything else he did. It made him
feel...significant.
A short time later, he slumps forward, nearly falling on his
patient before Corelia catches him, his water bent gloves
falling from his hands onto the dirt floor next to Lilibeth's
head. "Careful, Kitten," she says, smiling gently as she rights
him.
"That's...about as much...as I'm going to..." He slumps again,
this time falling against his sister. She hugs him tight and he
lays his head against her chest, listening to her heartbeat for
a moment. "Need sleep..."
She nods and picks him up. "Sure thing." She carries him over
to the wall opposite the sleeping mats and places him down.
He's already unconscious and goes without a sound. Once he's in
place, she goes back to their guest and takes one of the
blankets to lay over her brother and a spare dress of hers is
folded up and placed under his head. "Sleep well, Kitten," she
whispers, then stands again. Without further ado, she walks
over to the bucket Catalin filled and picks it up, pouring it
into the pot next to the fireplace to begin making a meal.

A few more minutes passed before Lilibeth began to stir, the
short-haired earthbender blinking slowly into consciousness, one
hand going to her forehead. A moment later, she registered that
there was actually no pain there, and dropped her hand,
expression puzzled.
After her dark-green eyes had adjusted to the darkness, she sat
up, looking around worriedly, before breathing a sigh of relief
once she realized she wasn't back at her home, or in some Dai-Li
prison, somewhere.
As her eyes took in her humble surroundings, Lilibeth smiled.
This place may have been small and unimpressive, but it was a
far more welcome sight than the pristine beauty of her home,
with all its cold oppression.
Letting out a quiet sound of exertion, Lilibeth sat up, and then
stood, stretching out her aching limbs with obvious
satisfaction, before casting her eyes around the room in sight
of her rescuers, and, apparently, her healers.
As her eyes settled on the young, blonde-haired woman who stood
by the fireplace, Lili felt her eyes widen slightly, before she
blinked and shook her head, forcing her mind back to the here
and now, and away from how very Cute she looked with that little
black hairband, in her long, golden hair.
Stepping forward, she let out a polite cough, her face set in a
wide and thankful smile as she spoke up.
"Excuse me.. uh, thanks for taking me in off the streets. Oh!
And thanks for helping with the bump on my noggin, you didn't
have to do that, but it was really nice of ya." Lilibeth spoke
up, voice thankful, and as informal and cheery as ever.

Corelia straightens from her soup she's been stirring as she's
addressed, dropping the handle of the ladle to lean with a
clatter against the side of the pot. "Oh!
Uh...you're...um...it was...uh..." she sputters out, blushing
and taking a slight step back. Her eyes dart to her sleeping
brother then back to the other woman. "I...u-uh..." she
continues, clearly trying to say something but unable to as she
draws her arms in towards herself, one hand going to her mouth.
"...um." Her head bows and she averts her eyes, which fall on
the cooking soup once more. She quickly grabs out the ladle and
fills a bowl with it and grabs a fork as well, putting it in and
holding the bowl out towards their guest. "...here."

Oh dear goodness, this girl was the cutest thing that Lilibeth
Ambershard had ever laid eyes on.
Lili felt her smile widen, and an eyebrow raise in curiosity and
interest as the beautiful young woman struggled to speak, her
voice so gentle, the earthbender could barely hear it.
As her rescuer took a step back and looked away, Lilibeth felt
herself frown. Such looks of worry didn't belong on so pretty a
creature.
Stepping forward to speak and reassure her, she was momentarily
surprised by the bowl of soup thrust in her direction, but
accepted it with a gracious grin, and nod of thanks.
'Oh! Thanks! Not sure I should really be abusing your
hospitality like this, miss. But thank you all the same."
Lilibeth replied, rather loudly, before digging into the soup
she had been given with great gusto.
She was a rather large fan of it, if her beaming smile, and the
messy way she ate, were any indication.

"Y-you're...uh..." Corelia tries to reply once more before
giving up at speaking and settle for a small, nervous smile and
a nod in response to the other's thanks. She picks up the only
other bowl and fork in view and serves out a portion of the soup
for herself, brushing a strand of hair back into place behind
her ear as she rises from over the pot to sit against the wall.
She leans forward over her soup, the hair behind her ears
falling forward to shade her face slightly. She eats slowly, an
eye on Lilibeth at all times, not making a sound.

As Lilibeth finished up her own bowl of soup, she grinned and
patted her belly, humming in satisfaction, having clearly
enjoyed herself.
"Ah! That was great! Thanks for the meal, Miss..?" Lilibeth
asked, as she placed her bowl carefully by the pot, before
approaching the other woman with a wide smile on her face,
reaching out a dirty hand in greeting, her deep-green eyes
bright and friendly, and her voice boisterous and warm.
As she got closer, though, the earth-bender found it harder and
harder to tear her deep-green eyes away from the beautiful
yellow ones of the woman she faced, even shaded as they might
have been by her soft, golden hair. Lilibeth also had to
restrain the sudden urge to reach out a hand to brush the golden
locks aside, in order to get a better look at the gentle face
that lay beneath.
Still, as attracted as she might have been to this near-silent
woman, Lili was no stranger to controlling and hiding her
desires and thoughts (and especially her interest in women), and
so none of this showed on her face besides the slightest hint of
a blush, that she quickly suppressed.

Corelia pushes some of her hair back behind her ear, where it
immediately falls forward again since she doesn't lift her head
much as she does so. One hand clutches her soup to her chest
while the other reaches out to gingerly give Lilibeth's a shake.
"...Corelia," she blurts out, first kind of loud before growing
quieter as she says her name. Her hand has calluses, a feel to
them that suggests they're no stranger to work.

Although Lilibeth raised an eyebrow at the strange
pronunciation, she still grinned and shook the other woman's
hand enthusiastically, replying with as much friendliness and
enthusiasm as she could muster. Which was quite a lot indeed.
"I'm Lilibeth, but you can call me Lili, or Li. It's a real
pleasure to meet you, Corelia." Lilibeth said, voice chipper, as
she shook the quiet woman's hand, vigorously.
Lilibeth's grip was firm, but not crushing, despite the notable
lack of calluses on her own hands. In fact, the skin of Lili's
palm was rather smooth, indicating one who had enjoyed a life of
comfort, but her grip belied a greater strength than might be
apparent from her appearance, and her rather callused knuckles
were also worthy of note, evidence of one that was no stranger
to a good fist-fight.

Corelia withdraws her hand from the vigorous shake to clutch the
bowl tighter to her chest, drawing her knees up slightly, giving
the impression of a spooked pill bug. "L-likewise," she murmers
softly, still keeping her eyes on Lilibeth. Her gaze darts to
the soup again, then back to Lili. "W-would...like...more?" she
asks, voice barely more than a whisper when she says the last
word. Oh how she wishes Cat would wake up. He's so much better
at talking.

Lilibeth watched Corelia's reactions interestedly, the smile
that had initially been on her face fading a little and becoming
a look of concern, as the other woman attempted to withdraw into
as small a shape as possible.
It made Lilibeth question whether Corelia was just That shy and
cute, or whether her own boisterousness and loudness was
actually That off putting. She fervently hoped it wasn't the
second one..
Corelia's question had been so quiet, Lilibeth wasn't sure she
had spoken at all, but after puzzling it over for a moment, she
smiled in sudden realisation.
"Oh, no more for me, thanks. It Was really good, but I don't
want to be too greedy. Which reminds me to ask, how'd you learn
to cook like that? That was Amazing!" Lilibeth replied, her grin
widening and voice raising again as she deciphered the quieter
woman's question, her own compliment clearly earnest and
heartfelt.
