Playing in the Dirt
By: Argentine Date: December 2, 2013, 12:42 am
---------------------------------------------------------
After the meeting with three of her acquaintances, Argentine
sighed, now finding herself more at peace as she stood in the
middle of an open field of nothing but dirt and some boulders.
She brought her hands into a tight fist, swinging it upwards to
bring up a large clump of earth before slamming one fist into
another fist; compressing it into a solid boulder.
Jen brought it down to the ground, walking up to it before
jumping onto it, and swinging her arms upwards; lifting the
boulder once more into the air with her still atop of it. From
there on she practiced various techniques with it; such as
experimenting with different altitudes she could raise and lower
it, swiveling around and such whilst keeping balance.

There was silence for a few minutes longer as Argentine trained,
before a call of: "Hi again!" Rang out across the clearing, from
the approaching form of Lilibeth Ambershard, the younger girl
skating into the clearing on raised blocks of stone beneath her
feet.
Slowing to a walking pace, she stepped off her stone skates, the
dark-haired woman approaching Argentine as she floated, and
tilting her head in curiosity.
"How do you do that so easily?" She asked, waving a hand in the
direction of the floating boulder, her expression curious, and
more cheerful than earlier that day.

"Hey Lily!" Argentine called, hovering the boulder towards her,
then for the fun of it swiveled up-side-down whilst still
standing straight, face-to-face with the other earth bender; her
feet deeply engrained into the rock to prevent her from falling.
"Years of practice, but I only managed to get this just right a
few weeks ago actually." she smiled, before her feet slipped
from the boulder and she flipped onto her feet, "I could say the
same thing about your cooly-cool green weapons you used earlier.
Where did you learn to fight like that?"

Lilibeth giggled at the sight of the other woman hovering upside
down, her smile wide as she landed on her feet and approached.
"Huh? Oh.. That. Family tutoring, I guess." Lilibeth said,
quietly, fiddling with her green-crystal necklace, before
quickly changing the topic, Family being an issue she never
wanted to talk about.
"What I was asking was: I always have a lot of trouble moving
stone and earth around if I'm not touching it, I was just
wondering how you, and other benders, manage to lift it from
range like that." Lili said, smile warm, as she looked up at the
taller earth-bender, expression positive, and curious.

Jen raised a brow at her briefly but smiled afterwards, figuring
that it was best to not press on the matter; no matter how
curious she got.
She then shrugged at her next comment, "I'm not really sure,
just kinda comes naturally I guess. Of course, having said that,
I find bending earth further away a lot more harder than when up
close. It's kinda, say for example, if you have a heavy weight
on a spoon, and you had to pick up the spoon at the tip of the
other end with just your thumb and index finger, without
dropping the weight."
The earth bender set the boulder down and with a swift kick she
kicked out a chunk of the boulder; juggling it between each foot
consecutively. A grin broadened on her face, "You up for a
game?"

"I know what you mean about distance and all that, it's just
that I can't really manipulate earth and stone unless I'm
directly touching it. If I Am touching it, though.." Lilibeth
said, happily, as she reached over to the boulder, and, after
the other bender had retrieved a ball of stone from it, flicked
it with her index finger.
The tiny impact seemed to have a catastrophic effect, hurling
the boulder at high speed across the clearing, ending with it
buried halfway inside the side of another, larger boulder.
As if nothing had happened, Lili looked up and smiled blindingly
at Argentine's suggestion, nodding rapidly.
"Sure! Lemme just go set up my goal!" She said, beaming, and
then, with a stomp and pushing movement towards Argentine with
both palms, she shifted the ground beneath her own feet to send
her sliding backwards rapidly, until she was far enough away, at
which point another stomp with each leg was enough to raise
large stone goalposts on either side of her.

Jen shrugged again with a smile, "I dunno, I guess everyone is
different - woah!" she flinched, not having expected the boulder
to suddenly lung forward at a high velocity. The earth bender
found herself blinking in surprise for a few moments before
chuckling, "Oho, this'll be fun."
Seeing her quickly-becoming-friend show off her skills
almost-modestly, Argentine chuckled again, wanting to do the
same. She curled her hands into fists, rotating them upwards and
the earth beneath her feet began to shift. The ground cracked an
outline just around the edges of her feet, and then pushing
upwards as two flat slabs of earth - seemingly a make-shift pair
of shoes - lifted her into the air and carried her backwards;
arms crossed giving more of a confident yet excited expression
as opposed to defensive. She then landed on the ground some
distance away before hurtling towards the ground, stomping it
hard to bring up two waist-height pillars either side of her.
Still with the boulder at her feet, she approached the middle,
readying herself for some fun.
(How are we gonna do this? Use two goals? Or one? Start in the
middle? xD)

Grinning and clearly a little impressed, Lilibeth folded her
arms behind her back and skated over, gliding across the dirt
like a figure skater, the earth itself sliding under her feet
and carrying her along with each step.
Once in the middle, she stopped, the two of them equidistant
from the ball, and equidistant from their goals.
Settling into a stance that would allow her faster movement as
she allowed the other bender to kick-off, she smiled, and spoke.
"Ready, Jen?" She asked, voice cheeky, as she readied herself to
play, not about to hold back.

"I'm always ready." Argentine smirked, excited by the
competition. Clusters of small rocks gathered at and around her
feet, until they formed rather uncomfortable-looking rocky
boots. This however, doesn't seem to bother basically every
earth bender, having been used to manipulating their favoured
element.
"Three... two... one... GO!" she yelled!
A split second after yelling 'go', the earth bender charged at
the boulder, bringing a leg into a swift kick towards the solid
ball.

Lilibeth's grin turned determined as the contest began, playful
and fun competition being one of her favorite things.
As the boulder-ball was sent hurtling off the ground towards
her, Lilibeth turned on the spot, timing her attack to lash out
with a perfectly performed back kick, sending the ball hurtling
back in the opposite direction, as she used the kick's momentum
to slide herself some distance towards her own goals, settling
into a defensive stance as she did so, and beaming brightly.
