Role-playing Etiquette

Spelling grammar & sentence structure
The first and most important rule of role-play is proper
sentence structure. Please make sure your posts have correct
grammar usage capital letters and full stops. Additional grammar
skills are also welcomed but the basics are all that are needed
to make sure the role-play flows and is understandable.
**** Spelling is not going to be an issue, as there are people
whose first language is not English and they may not have the
best spelling skills. If you need help, just ask!****
An example of a bad post is:
She ran in and hit something.
Who is 'she'? What is she hitting? Why is she hitting it? Why
was she running? Plus, this is, technically, not a complete
sentence.
An example of a good post is:
Aleena huffed in anger as she ran into the house to get away
from him, ready to hit something to release her fury. Finding a
soft throw pillow, she slams her fists into it, allowing her
anger to wear off. Soon she was calm with a smile on her face,
sitting on the floor with a mangled pillow in front of her.
Notice this is a complete sentence, with a little more structure
than the last example. You also know all the answers to the
questions from earlier.
Fighting
When you engage with other member in combat it is very important
to respect your opponent and their decisions. You CAN NOT land
hits forcefully on a character or determine the damage done that
is up to the other player.
Here is an example of how NOT to fight in a role-play:
Mally stuck Freya, hard enough to knock him to the ground. In
his weakened state, she stepped on his chest to keep him down,
rendering him useless.
The problem with this is the fact that Mally has become OP, and
she hasn't given Freya a chance to react.
Example of how to fight in a role-play:
Mally: She struck out at Freya, hoping to hit his face and knock
him down.
Freya: He noticed Mally throwing her fist towards his face, and
he quickly ducked down to avoid the contact.
Here we can see Freya was given the chance to react as he felt
right, and there was no over-powered action to ruin it.
Basic Etiquette
If you join a thread and you don't understand something, just
ask! But please don't assume people will post or cater to you
without you asking.
Be patient. Do not pester people for replies, ask them politely.
People have their own lives and things to do offline.
Respect other people's decisions and do not badmouth another
person out of character.
