Rumour is that the backbenchers can't agree on a successor.

Wouldn't be a bit surprised.
The diagram of who is knifing who in the ribs must be dizzying.

Christian Wakeford strikes me as a bit of dodgy geezer,
abandoning a sinking ship, with his 400 Bury majority in 2019.

Indeed. Abandoning Boris Johnson is a necessary but not
sufficient condition for being a decent human being.
.../logicpedant :)

Also, no one wants to take over the blame for Brexit and Covid
disasters.
As long as Johnson is there, all is his fault.

Agreed. But he's also a liability because the longer he remains
in office the more chances there are for him to screw up again
and cause practical and reputational problems for the Tories.
It's a balancing act - they must be having fun in the back
rooms....

Shot himself in the foot crossing over right now, his letter of
no confidence is now invalid.

Of course Boris didn't know there was a party, there were no
balloons - and every child knows that you can't have a party
without balloons!

How about Johnson removing ALL covid restrictions and soon
people with covid can do whatever they want.
Surely this is not backed by science but completely an attempt
to win back his backbenchers.
