In one of the most policed and surveilled buildings in the UK,
the cops didn't notice a party?

Maybe it's the modern equivalent of turning the taps on so
people listening in can't hear your conversations due to the
running water.
They play party tapes permanently and they don't realise there
is actually a party going on. :D

Think the Tories will be forced to call an election, perhaps
hoping to strike before the opposition gets its act together?

I think they gave up on donkeys when they chose Boris, moving up
to mules!

If a vote of no confidence passes in the HoC (unlikely given how
many Tory MPs still support the party on this), Boris resigning
only triggers a Tory party leadership election. Roughly 180,000
Tory party members get to vote on who becomes next party leader,
and by default, the next PM.

Yes they do, but that guy in the articke was saying that they
would have to "go the the country" after that, ie call a general
election early.I don't think the opposition is ready though.

As I understand the Fixed-Term Parliament Act, a change of
leader of the party in office doesn't require a new GE. The
next GE has to be no later than 5yrs after the previous one,
unless Parliament is dissolved.
