I've been wrong before, but this is my current take:
“The whole operation is premised on the fact that the US will
join at some point,” a third Israeli official said."
I wonder why he said that, or who told him to say that. The US
will give as much aid to Israel as the taxpayers will tolerate,
but partnership with the US in armed conflict would mean Israel
would have to be prepared to take orders from the US, and they
won't do that.
This is the game of "3D chess" they refer to. The Fordow
enrichment plant that Iran has beneath a mountain requires (so
they say) a 30,000lb bunker buster bomb delivered by a B2 bomber
to destroy it. That bomb can be delivered via C-130 Hercules,
but the plane would never make it to target without total air
superiority and 0 ground defences, otherwise the IAF could do it
themselves. Aside from angering Putin, another reason Trump
won't want to do that is because Iran would retaliate. Iran
supports and maintains terrorist organisations, no secret. Iran
has assets within the continental US, of course, there are a lot
of Iranians and some of them are going to be sleeper agents. If
the US drops a bomb on Iran (and no guarantee that enrichment
plant would be destroyed) there will have to be a reaction.
After Major General Soleimani was killed in January 2020, it
took them 5 days before retaliating with missile strikes on US
bases in Iraq.
I'm watching a San Diego - Dodgers game now, and the stadium is
pretty full. A crop sprayer* full of sarin gas could make a
couple of turns over the stands and kill about 30,000 people
then soon as the tank is empty the pilot could fly it right into
the tallest shiniest building in sight. If they couldn't get a
crop sprayer, a private plane full of explosives could still
make a mess in the crowd. Trump wouldn't care personally, but
it would be pure hell on his image. He doesn't want to have
"brought Jihad back to the continental US" on his resume. Even
though he's responsible for killing the Iran Nuclear Deal (at
Israel's urging), he wants to be seen as a peacemaker. With
him, it's all about the ratings.

Colhoun's crop spraying company just north of Regina trying to
buy lessons in how to fly the machines, and asked about buying
one. Colhoun got suspicious and wouldn't go near them, thank
goodness, but it shows they might consider it a possible way to
attack.

This morning I started to doubt my memory, so looked it up. I
had the basic story, but Colhoun's would-be customer was never
identified as Iranian, that was someone else in Weyburn.

Lets see what the next 2 weeks brings.
President Donald Trump will allow two weeks for diplomacy to
proceed before deciding whether to launch a US strike in Iran,
according to the White House.

B-2 bombers moving to Guam amid Middle East tensions, US
officials say.
"The United States is moving B-2 bombers to the Pacific island
of Guam, two U.S. officials told Reuters on Saturday, as
President Donald Trump weighs whether the United States should
take part in Israel's strikes against Iran."
Now lets see if they continue onto U.S.-British military base on
the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia which is apparently the
perfect staging area for middle east access, the B-2 is
apparently the only aircraft capable of dropping the
30,000-pound GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator according to
CNN.

US used six B-2 bombers to drop 12 "bunker busters" on Fordow,
official says.
Navy submarines fired 30 TLAM cruise missiles at two other
sites, Natanz and Isfahan, and a B2 dropped two bunker busters
on Natanz, the official said.
Prominent adviser to Iran’s supreme leader says it “must launch
missile strikes” on US Navy ships.

U.S. State Department has begun evacuations of Americans from
Israel.

70 U.S. citizens, their accompanying immediate family members

The evacuations happened several hours before the US strikes on
Iran.
