There are places I'd like to visit, but I'm Canadian for the
duration, and I even have loyalty to my dodgy neighbourhood in
my dodgy city. The Trump-Musk assault on international trade and
aid and civil rights isn't something we can outrun anyway. If I
was American I'd probably be freaking right out, but I'll just
stockpile food and toilet paper (and booze and dope), and vote
when it's time, try to Buy Canadian, and for now I'll do my
travelling on tv. Yesterday I was in Paris on the Magellan
channel, learning about President Mitterand's monuments.

Thousands fired in US government as Trump, Musk purge federal
workers.

The Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides health care
for veterans has fired 1,000 people.
U.S. Forest Service was set to fire more than 3,000 people.
Mostly people still on probation which makes them easier to
fire, there are approx 228,000 federal employees on probationary
status.
These firings will certainly cause the US unemployment rate to
increase.
These firings are on top of the 77,000 federal workers who
accepted Trump's offer under the deferred resignation program.

food ingredients, medical devices and other products were

What does The Donald intend to do with all the unemployed people
he's draining out of the swamp?, send them down the mine?
People compare him to Hitler, but I see some Stalin in there
too, mostly the ironic bits. And that reminded me of a story I
heard about Idi Amin a long time ago. Idi had had his opponents
and anyone else he didn't like killed, and their bodies thrown
into a drainage canal. After a bit, the canal became clogged
with decomposing bodies, so an outraged Amin had the city
sanitation workers who were responsible for the canal executed,
and their bodies thrown into the canal. I don't think
appointing a fruit loop like RFK Jr Secretary of Health is any
less backward.

The US and Russia appointed teams to negotiate an end to the war
in Ukraine. The only issue, European leaders and the leaders of
Ukraine were left out of the meeting.
