Nancy Pelosi Husband Attacked

The accused suspect was originally from Powell River, BC but has
resided in California for the last 20 years.

Her husband received a skull fracture and serious injuries to
his right arms and hand and underwent sugery, doctors expect him
to recover.
Nancy Pelosi was not home at the time and flew to Californa
later in the day to be with her husband as she was in Washington
DC at the time of the attack.
The attacker posted memes and conspiracy propaganda on facebook,
but is not in any federal threat databases.

As Nancy Pelosi wasn't home at the time, the usual security
detail she receives when home wasn't there, although cameras
were on the property and police will review the footage.
(The CNN article doesn't mention his BC link but some BC news
sources have and his family confirmed, although they have not
seen him in 20 years.)

DePape is still in hospital too, so the old man must have got
him a good one before losing control of the hammer. 2nd
amendment people will be all over this one. Putting a warning
shot in his leg might have made more of an impression than
brandishing a hammer (if that's what Pelosi did). The glass in
the back door was broken so the intruder may have brought the
hammer with him, we'll find out later. He just had to be a MAGA
clown to complicate things; couldn't be some random crackhead
off the street that didn't know whose house it was.

I wonder if they will re-evaluate if the speakers home should be
protected even when the speaker isn't at home.
The guy who did the attack sounds off mentally, doesn't even
seem like it's the usual right wing nut, he seemed to at one
point been some sort of hippy but got pulled into the right wing
rabbit hole.

Over the past 7 or 8 years we've seen so much crazy stuff happen
in the US (and the overflow creating our freedumb convoy
truckers) there must be some new research into how it happens.
The enormity of the Trump's following surpassed any previous
cult despite the whole premise being blatantly untrue and
inflated. Are people willing to overlook how stupid any idea is
just to be a part of a group? The Klansmen and Proud Boys have
their own iron in the fire so supporting him makes sense there,
but 10's of millions of Americans who seem to be otherwise
normal somehow got their hands on the same kool-aid.

GOP excels at riling up their base and excel at making things up
to make people mad and it wins them elections so they will
continue doing it.
It's likely to only get worse, the last 2 years was more of a
vacation from republicans. Election is on November 8th for mid
terms, and it's epected republicans will gain control of the
house.
The senate is a dead heat and could go either way.

The majority portion of the Republican fall into three
categories, in my opinion. First, rightwing religious zealots
who make me imagine The Handmaids Tale becoming the party
doctrine soon. And face it, some of those folks believe the
earth is only 6,000 years old and that dinosaurs walked the
earth with humans...there is even a theme park that teaches that
in one of the lunatic southern states. People who are that
intellectually out of touch are ripe to believe any ridiculous
story the Repub mouthpieces feed them as a scare tactic. Second,
we have the segment that includes some who have never had real
success, perhaps because of the crappy education system in their
particular state, and resent those who have because Repubs tell
them it is the liberals fault. It is deeper than that, but that
is another core demographic. Third, the neo Nazi faction filled
with racists and violent idiots including groups like the Proud
Boys who see the Repub Party as their road to white supremacy.
You need to remember that before the Civil War the Southern
states were all Democrat states and when slavery was abolished
and they lost the Civil War, they left the party and became
Republicans. So, the racist message remained strong under a
different political banner, and still is. Over the years I have
had occasions of disappointment and even embarrassment when it
came to some of the sins of my country, but this time it is the
last straw. I feel the need to never set foot on U.S. soil
again. Anyone who looks closely at the cruelty in the overall
history of the U.S. can learn fairly quickly what a charade the
whole "greatest country" mantra is.

The DePape guy is looking towards a good chunk of time in prison
if convicted, possibly life.
If convicted on all the state charges which include attempted
murder, residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon,
elder abuse, false imprisonment of an elder, as well as threats
to a public official and their family he faces 13 years to life.
He is also facing federal charges of attempted kidnapping of a
US official which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, one
count of assault of an immediate family member of a US official
with the intent to retaliate against the official which carries
a maxuimum sentence of 30 years.

according to court filings the man charged with the attack was
on a suicide mission and had plans to target other California
and federal officials.
The judge denied bail in state court, and was already being held
in federal custody.
Sounds like the public defender will focus on his mental state
for the defense.

Pelosi's attacker was in the US illegally.

Records indicate he entered the US on March 8, 2008 at the San
Ysidro border crossing in So. California entering from Mexico.
ICE issued an immigration detainer against him on November 1st,
which wont affect his criminal cases as deportations are
generally done after any criminal case and sentence is resolved.

I read the Global article this morning, and it contained a
statement from his defense lawyer about him being possibly
"susceptible to misinformation" (or words to that effect). I
can't see that going far in court and setting a precedent for
the Jan 6 trials. Stupidity is an excuse, but not a good enough
one to use for a crime like braining someone with a hammer.
