Health Authorities in other countries are also having
difficulties with long waiting lists, I presume the extra
problems that covid caused has had an impact worldwide.

With colon cancer rates increasing in those under 50, I think
it's time they rethink the screening ages, waiting until 50 is a
death sentence for many.
It is amazingly difficult to get colon cancer screening done
under 50.
The screening guidelines are outdated more and more under 50's
are getting it and dying because they are not screened for colon
cancer so by the time symptoms appear it's often stage 4
terminal at diagnoses.

Doctors per 1,000 people for some selected countries, my method
of choosing was to compare the 3 major countries of North
America, than to add 2 English speaking countries, and than I
chose the other countries randomly based on what order they
popped into my mind.
I was just curious and was just initially comparing just the US
and Canada but decided to add a few other countries for
comparison.
The US and Canada are very similiar in doctors per 1,000.

A kid has been waiting for heart surgery in BC since May and has
the surgery cancelled 2 times so far.
The issue is inadequate staffing.

Fact is there just isn't enough doctors and nurses and support
staff to go around, all provinces are doing right now is
poaching from one another.
Pay needs to go up, and training for these in demand medical
jobs should be free and fully subsidized by the government.
Right now for many of these jobs in BC the pay is just too low
so people are not entering the field and retirements are
speeding up as the younger boomers are retiring and the oldest
Gen X are not far behind.

There are immigration campaigns in place to encourage overseas
applicants (doctors / nurses), just as they did a few years ago.

Not enough staff to go around in Calgary so they are discharging
pediatric respite patients from the childrens hospice to redploy
staff to the hospital.

There has been a surge of respiritory viruses putting kids into
hospital, so it boils down to needing to prioritize acutely ill
kids over those in respite care at the hospice.

"Viral DNA in human genomes, embedded there from ancient
infections, serves as antivirals that protect human cells
against certain present-day viruses, according to new research."
"Endogenous retroviruses account for about 8% of the human
genome—at least four times the amount of DNA that make up the
genes that code for proteins."

BC Government urges parents to get flu shots for their kids as
cases increase putting strain onto BC Childrens Hospital and
others but BC Childrens is struggling the most at the moment
with wait times of 10-12+ hours.

BC is seeing a dramatic increase in influenza A which can cause
severe illness in children (one child died recently in BC due to
complications from Influenza A)
Influenza A is spreading rapidly in children in the province.
Government is considering cancelling surgeries to free up staff
