L's doctor say's she should see a podiatrist for a foot issue
she is having, podiatrists in BC are not covered for most
people.
The government will cover $23 for those on disability but that
$23 discount doesn't help much.

Funny in a way Canadian's always saying "at least insurance
companies are not making medical decisions" when comparing the
US and Canadian systems, but that isn't true necessairly because
Canadian's can't always access the medications they need because
of cost the government and private extended health insurance
companies refusing to cover them.
My wife should be on a more effective medication but neither BC
or her extended health will cover it, and we can't afford
$300-$350 per month it costs.

Nova Scotia has a record 116,000 people on their doctor wait
list.
BC doesn't really do a central wait list but it's estimated
about 1 million people in BC have no GP which limits their
access to healthcare since the entire system revolves around a
GP.
Next month I will join the ranks of people without a GP and the
new town we are moving to the medical clinic there says they
have 3,000 on their wait list so yeah not looking like I'll have
a GP and probably need to venture on the ferry to Vancouver
still.
Walk in clinics just don't work for chronic ailments, they are
great for one off things like strep throat but for following
regular ongoing healthcare needs they really don't work.

GP yet again cancelled my appointment, she has not been in for
the last 2 weeks the office says.
I will end up dead at this point because I cannot access proper
healthcare to get this issue dealt with/ivestigated it's not
normal, but not an emergency and walk in clinic doctors tell me
to see my GP who keeps cancelling my appointments because she
isn't coming into the office for an unknown reason.
Weight loss
Pain under the arm/swelling
loss of appetite
And once we move in 2 weeks we wont even have access to a GP
anymore at all, basically wont have any preventive care at all
and there are no doctors in the new area accepting patients,
frankly at this point, I wish we had US private healthcare or at
least a private option we could pay insurance for to actually
access medical care.
13 months waiting for a GI specialist too is not acceptable but
is literally what I am experiencing and no end in sight.

Did end up going to urgent care the NP there isn't sure what the
problem could be, did order some blood work and she didn't feel
any large masses under the arm where the pain is, but did feel a
couple swollen lymph nodes, but is concerned about the weight
loss and loss of appetite and said to see my GP once the blood
work comes back to investigate further.
My GP wont be back anytime soon as according to her office she
has removed herself from the appointment schedule until middle
of January and of course no GP's accepting patients in the new
place, so my plan is to get the blood work done today, then once
we move, I will just go to the ER in the new place and try and
see if a doctor there can figure it out.
Down to 226 this morning, lost nearly 20 pounds in less than 2
months and I am not trying to lose weight.
It's all very frustrating and just poor continuity of care when
your seeing random doctors who have no idea of your health
history trying to figure something out in the 5-10 minutes they
have with you.

Glad you went, it must be worrying for you. Does your GP have a
stand-in GP to take over her practice when she is unavailable?

No she like most GP's in BC don't have locums or fill in doctors
anymore there just isn't enough GP's in BC anymore for that sort
of thing.
Some of my blood work is back, WBC is normal but on the high
side of normal.
Red blood cell count is high.
So far it's just the red blood cell count that is abnormal but
that isn't good, and could mean all kinds of things from minor
to major so doesn't narrow anything down.
It's going to be tricky to get follow up care.

It's not looking promising in the new place, find a doctor bc
website lists only 2 clinics.

Clinic 1 is accepting patients to a wait list who are
indigenous, Inuit and Metis.
Clinic 2 is a fee for use clinic not covered by MSP which means
you need to have $$$ to self pay each appointment.
"Fee per use. They are a private clinic and their fees not
covered by MSP, so if you don’t have extended health that will
cover it you will have to pay out of pocket. You can claim it on
your income tax."
But not a surprise we had already been told by the local public
health office there were not doctors available to new patients.
Nearby towns;
Ladysmith 0 clinics accepting patients
Nanaimo 0 clinics accepting patients
Victoria has 1 clinic with a wait list but it is a private
clinic not covered by MSP.
There appears to be no doctors within a 100km drive accepting
patients.
Will likely have to commute to Vancouver for non-emergency
healthcare needs until a time comes when a doctor might be
accepting patients on the Island within a reasonable drive.
I don't know why BC doesn't keep a centralized provincial wait
list, seems like it would be easier for doctors and the province
there are some wait lists but they are not centralized so you
need to search them out and find ones to put your name on, it's
so frustrating but the lists are long MIL has been waiting on a
few for 3 or 4 years now.
I know my body and I know there is something wrong inside it.
Earliest appointment with my GP is November 17 almost a month
away of having to worry and wait, not to mention the cost of the
ferry each way or cost of the flight, it's insane we don't have
a proper healthcare system where people can access doctors in a
timely and efficient fashion in BC.
