Ongoing issues continue with 9-11 service in BC with people
getting recorded messages to hang up and try again.
“There was just nothing and about two minutes went by and all of
a sudden this message came on and it was a recorded message that
said, ‘If this is an emergency, please hang up and dial 911
again,’” said Doug Bigg, describing what happened after he
called 911 and was routed to the ambulance service Sunday
night."

Canada should follow U.S. call to screen for breast cancer at
40, doctors say.

"Doctors and breast cancer survivors are urging Canada to follow
the example set by a U.S. task force and lower the recommended
age for regular screening mammograms to 40."
The issue is mostly in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec
and Newfoundland and Labrador where women have to be 50.
BC will screen women at age 40 and above, although for those
with no family history they do recommend speaking to your doctor
first.

"The Lower Mainland’s medical community is stunned after
receiving an urgent memo from a highly-respected doctor about
Langley Memorial Hospital’s emergency department – saying it is
near collapse and patients should be discouraged from going
there."
“The situation is dire and near catastrophic,” Plante went on to
write. “Their department is near collapse under the weight of
the current crisis. The situation is unsafe for physicians and
patients alike.”

Hopefully when Sask starts recognizing credentials of healthcare
pros that they haven't so far, our shortage will eased.
Previous governments have tried different approaches. The main
one was financial incentives so students could go to med school
here on the public account, as long as they promised to practice
at least 5 years in the province after graduation. No doubt it
helped, but too many moved on as soon as they could to make more
money elsewhere, or to get away from some small hospital. One
thing our rotten conservative government has to try to get right
is health care for seniors, or they risk eroding their rural
voter base.

BC is trying all sorts of things but the biggest hurdle is the
lack of affordable housing and wages for most healthcare jobs
being too low.

I guess the pain in my abdomen is from gallstones.
I apparently have at least 3 of them 2mm in size.
I see the GP tomorrow, but I was able to get the results today.
If I need surgery I wonder if I can get a general surgeon who
can do both gall bladder and hernia surgery at once, seems like
it would be more ideal, if your already going under, why not fix
both issues at the same time?

Doctors of BC released this statement today.
“Our patients are suffering, and the doctors struggling to
provide their care are tired and distressed. Our patients need
and deserve better. They deserve to know that they will be safe,
and that they will be cared for when they go to an emergency
department for help. The dire situation we are facing now cannot
continue.”
Doctors of BC is a professional organization that represents
14,000 physicians, medical residents and medical students within
the province.

More patients without a doctor as a local doctor cuts back their
practice and will dump patients under 50.
The only reason I have a GP is because I pay $110 per month,
otherwise I'd be at the mercy of walk in clinics that are
difficult to get seen because the demand is so high, most
clinics fill up within an hour of opening.
