       since rescinded..

       Sure, why would they lie about it?  I don't think they'd be
       testing nukes during an exercise like this and if they'd crashed
       one they probably wouldn't allow the civilian first responders
       into the area.  None of the news articles speculates on what the
       materials might be.  In aggregate, that's a lot of speculation.
       Some shells are tipped with depleted uranium to facilitate
       penetration of armour, and that would qualify as nuclear, but
       hardly worth covering up.

       My guess is if there was anything nuclear is wasn't a weapon and
       something minor from equipment being transported.
       Navy had a helicopter crash yesterday also in Imperial County,
       everyone survived thankfully.

       For the record..... The 1958 Mars Bluff B-47 nuclear weapon loss
       incident was the inadvertent release of a nuclear weapon from a
       United States Air Force B-47 bomber over Mars Bluff, South
       Carolina. The bomb, which lacked the fissile nuclear core, fell
       over the area, causing damage to buildings below.
       Oh shucks...thaty was just a teaser..The countries history of
       such mishaps is longggggggggggggggggggggggg.

       I thought they accidentally dropped an H-bomb into the sea off
       the coast of Italy and there was a mad scramble to find and
       recover it, but didn't see that one on the list.

       It's on there, but it was Spain, not Italy.  Jan 17th, 1966.
