       I don't know if the gun safety bill that congress passed and
       Biden has now signed will do anything, but better than nothing I
       guess, it had support of a small number of republicans, but it's
       pretty clear republicans are in general don't mind mass
       shootings considering how many voted against it.

       The mayor of Philadelphia hints at the Canadian model, but says
       resignedly not in his lifetime:

       When someone says "What about that Independence Day shooting?"
       and you have to ask which one it's pretty dire (although some
       would point out it's not as bad as last year).
