P&O ferries

800 odd staff being made, suddenly "redundant", on zero notice
(?) with replacements lined up. Looks pretty smelly but all too
typical of modern business methods.

A race to the bottom, companies only care about maximizing
profit at the expense of everyone else it seems, eventually
there might be too many people at the bottom to pay for these
companies services.

A race to the bottom sounds quite dangerous for a shipping
company!

However, no real surprise that a company would try something
like this in a climate of zero-hours employment, etc. one
presumes that ferry companies have some form of regulation
regarding safety and training requirements..... so it's hard to
see how crewing a ship via an agenct is going to work out
cheaper without standards being cut. A government will ba11s
would threaten the company with losing its licence to
operate.....
