I hate the way this is escalating.. so many innocent lives
lost.. Putin: "We didn't bomb residential buildings, schools
       etc., it's all fake.. " - bullshit!

If the Russians can't keep the territory they attack, they'll
destroy everything so the residents there either leave or are
left with no infrastructure. Either way, Russia wins.....
I think a similar scenario was in a Tom Clancy novel, and what
stiopped it in the end was a B-52 strike on Russian villages,
though in real-life, that's never going to be authorised, nor
       should it.

       Russia blocking Twitter & Facebook.
CBC and other western media suspending reporting from inside
       Russia.
Article on the bots, and misinformation sphere shifting almost
entirely to misinformation about Ukraine. Enough of a drop of
bots on other topics like COVID to be very noticeable on social
       media the last week.

Flightradar 24 shows RSD88, a special Rossiya flight is enroute
from St Petersburg to Washington DC. I have no idea what for.

Given how much Ukraine suffered in the second world war, you
might think that it's politicians would, should, have been
       keener on establishing formal neutrality.

Since Russia doesn't respect Ukraine's sovereignty there's no
reason to suspect they would respect Ukraine's neutrality, and
since they aren't honouring the treaty they made in exchange for
Ukraine giving up the nukes, there's no reason for anyone to
think they'd honour any deal made with anyone. Yesterday I spoke
with an old man in the Commissionaires. From his age I would
guess he was a Korea vet, and he was wearing a blue and yellow
ribbon on his uniform. He had a Ukrainian accent (not unusual
here) and he said it's Zelensky's fault for not sufficiently
preparing for an invasion, since he had 8 years to do so. They
       know who their neighbours are.

Aside f the minor detail that Zelensky has been in pier for less
than 3 years I think his view (of a successful defence) might be
a tad naive. Having said that the key to successful neutrality
       is a strong defence force.

Chalk it up to the accent and mask, I wouldn't call him naive.
I don't think successful neutrality is what the Ukrainians had
in mind when they overthrew Yanukovich. If we're going to have a
rule of law between nations when there is no international
police force that can or will enforce it, I suppose it's
everyone for themselves. If there isn't going to be a no-fly
zone declared over Ukraine, what they want is more armament
including fighter planes and helicopters they can use from the
other former Warsaw Pact countries and a continuing river of
volunteer fighters from around the world. You don't create a
       lasting peace by enabling dictators.

Well, that cease-fire didn't last very long:
"Ukrainian officials said Russian artillery fire and airstrikes
had prevented residents from leaving before the agreed-to
evacuations got underway. Putin accused Ukraine of sabotaging
       the effort."

Picking up the Russian's who have been expelled from the US and
were given until Monday to leave.
“The U.S. government approved a flight chartered by the Russian
government to facilitate the departure of Russian UN Mission
personnel who were expelled for abuse of their privileges of
residence,” said a State Department spokesperson in a statement
to POLITICO. “This special exception was done in accordance with
federal regulations to ensure Russian mission personnel and
their families departed by the date we had instructed.”

According to CNN Putin said on Saturday that the sanctions
against Russia are “equivalent of a declaration of war.”
