I suspected a deal was made recently that Germany would approve
Nordstream 2 if Putin didn't invade, and I think I was right.
Good to see they're living up to it. With no assurance Russia
won't turn off the tap on the pipeline going through Ukraine,
there's going to be some scrambling going on to import natural
gas into Europe.

Totally hacked off with all that's happening - and not seeing
even the slightest chink of light at the end of the tunnel.
Concerned about the Ukrainians seemingly about to be sacrificed
on the altar of "I told you so", for the Russians believing that
their patriotism is better than someone else's patriotism, for
the West being shown to be as toothless as a toothless thing
without even a set of dentures, for my wallet being depleted by
things I could never have predicted.
I had a dream last night I remember having back in the early 80s
when I moved to London. It's very short. I am sitting at a round
metal table outside a pub. I drop something and bend under the
table to pick it up. There's a bright flash.
I wake up sweating.....
I haven't had that dream in a long, long time......

Looks like Russia has escalated to an all out invasion, Russian
troops entering from Belarus.
Explosions in various parts of country including the capital.
Russia has shut down its stock exchange until further notice.
Quote from Putin's statement justifying the invasion.
“To anyone who would consider interfering from the outside: if
you do, you will face consequences greater than any you have
faced in history. All relevant decisions have been taken. I hope
you hear me,”

The G7 meets in about 15 minutes. We'll see what sanctions they
come up with. Some Russians have taken to the street in Moscow
to protest and been swiftly taken into custody. Briar Stewart
reporting from Rostov on Don said 2 people who were protesting
outside her hotel were grabbed off the street immediately.
Margaret Evans reporting in Kyiev was ordered into the basement
of her hotel because of threat of an attack. Air raid sirens
have been wailing there off and on all day.
