There hasn't been much need to update this thread because
Ukraine has been on every newscast, but it looks like Mariupol
is getting ready to fall. The Russians have changed the
roadsigns leading into the city, removing the dual language ones
with Ukrainian and Russian, and erecting ones in Russian only.
A bunch of civilians were removed the other day, and rumours
state that some of the fighters have managed to exfiltrate their
positions, also that there may be a Russian victory parade in
Mariupol..... The place looks like Stalingrad. Here is some
footage of the ongoing shelling of Azovstal Steel Works:

Lots of big names in the news today, the US Charge d'Affairs
showed up to lay the groundwork for re-opening their embassy,
Pierre Trudeau officiated in person at the Canadian embassy
after meeting Zelensky, US First Lady Jill Biden dropped into a
border town to meet Ms Zelensky, and Bono was singing in the
Kiev subway. A virtual G7 meeting managed to agree on a bunch
of new sanctions and reaffirm the plan to boycott Russian energy
exports. In response Russia shot a missile into a school where
people were sheltering, killing 60. It's going to take a hell
of a parade tomorrow to offset all that.

Russia sortied most of the Black Sea Fleet this morning. I
don't know if Ukraine has the resources to sink many (UA is
claiming 1 so far), but I'd like to see it turn into a turkey
shoot. When Putin illegally annexed Crimea they effectively
broke the deal they had for using Sevastapol harbour, and as far
as I'm concerned when they left the base with their weapons the
contract was broken. Sink so many ships their sailors would
rather mutiny, and it would make my day.

reporting in a fairly accurate and concise manner.

Russia has cut finland off electricity wise, but appears
Findland totat % of electricity from Russia is rather small so
wont affect day to day life.
Punishment it seems for planning to apply to join NATO.

This fellow DoNotPanik on tik tok wonders what is wrong with
Russia. Why attack in the east when their resources are already
so severely depleted, and why attempt to open a second front in
Moldova and Transnistra? The Moldovans may not greet the
invaders with flowers. He asks if Russians are really that
dumb, then recalls that they dug fortifications in the
contaminated forest floor at Chernobyl, so maybe they are.

There was that news yesterday of a coup and the other claim by a
Russian oligarch that Putin has cancer, say he is terminally ill
this makes him even more dangerous really, a terminally ill
madman has nothing to lose.

32 years after opening their first location in Russia,
McDonald's is permanently leaving Russia due in part to the
Ukraine invasion.
Looks like McD's aim's to sell it's Russia business, but the new
owner will not be permitted to use the McDonald's name, logo, or
menu.
McDonald's is expected to take a $1.2 to $1.4 billion dollar
write off leaving Russia, the 847 Russian and 108 McDonald's
locations accounted for 9% of the companies revenue last year.
