BBC Radio 4 had an obituary on Barry Cryer from 10 years ago -
       by Barry Cryer!
       Another joke from him
       Customer "Do you sell wasps?"
       Shopkeeper "No we do not!"
Customer Well, you've got one in the window!"
and a longer one recalled by Giles Brandreth....
A woman walks past a pet shop, sees a magnificent parrot in the
window, rushes inside and says "How much for the parrot?"
       "Five quid" says the shopkeeper.
"Only five pounds? I've got to have it", says the woman "Why's
       it so cheap?"
"Well," says the shopkeeper, "must confess, it was brought up in
a brothel and, to put it politely, it's got quite an extensive
       vocabulary!"
"Never mind," says the woman "at that price, I'll take it"
So she takes the parrot home, puts it in the cage in the living
room and takes the cover off and the parrot goes "New place.
       Very nice"
Then the woman's daughters walk in, "New place. New girls. Very
       Nice"
Then the woman's husband walks in and the parrot says "Oh, hello
       Keith!"

In 1980 I moved to London as an EO(ADP) with Post Office
telecommunications. My induction course (remember them?!!) was
in High Holborn, just along from the Princess Louise pub.
Through this, I learned that Ewan MacColl (who I knew from his
songs sung by the Dubliners and the Clancys) had set up a folk
club there in the past- and from that I understood that a pub
across the way (I can't remember the name) still hosted his club
sessions in an upstairs room. I went twice, feeling withdrawal
from the seisiúns back home, but found that the London folK
scene was VERY different (all the finger-in-the-ear purist
       twaddle).
However, I went twice because, on the first occasion, Martin
Carthy and his wife were there - and their attitude was
different and their talent was tangible.... the tingly, "I'll
remember this forever" type of experience. His wife was, of
course, Norma Waterson. The next time I went, I was bored out of
my tiny.... and never went back. Staying power, see! The truth
was, I had discovered the Pubs of Hammersmith, Cricklewood and
the "County Kilburn", which suited me better!
       This, from around that time

That took me back. My 6th form college was just around the
corner from there, on Southampton Row, near Russell Square. The
Princess Louise was just a hop, skip and a jump away for an
underage group of students (sometimes with the teachers, I might
add!) to go for a lunchtime pint. Never was there in the evening
       though.
