The size and energy of that eruption is insane. Japan is 8,000
km from Tonga, just under 5,000 miles and they had higher waves
as a result. I can only hope when we finally get reports in
       that injuries are minimal.
The power inside the Earth is astounding at times.

       That satellite footage was amazing.
I knew there was a reason we bought a house on a hill.

You'd think we'd be safe being in the middle of the country, and
we generally are with things like this, but once the sea levels
really start to rise, the Great Lakes will wipe Chicago and
Milwaukee out just as much as the pacific will reclaim LA and
       San Francisco.

Advisory for north and east coasts of NZ to stay away from the
beach today due to wave surges and unpredictable currents. This
is exacerbated by the fact that ex-cyclone Cody is tracking to
the east of NZ and already causing higher than average waves.
Significant damage has already occurred to boats moored in
Tutukaka marina in Northland, 3 hours north of Auckland. People
were evacuated from camp grounds overnight. Wasn't planning on
going to the beach today due to the cyclone warning, even more
       reason to keep away.
       That satellite picture was amazing.

I can't get over how far reaching the effects of this eruption
       were.
It seems like there are no reported serious injuries that I can
see though, long may that continue.

I will never forget the Indian Ocean Tsunami December 2004 (I
had Brit friends from Canada caught up in it, thankfully they
survived - but mentally they never got over the trauma)
  HTML https://www.history.com/news/deadliest-tsunami-2004-indian-ocean<br
/>- nor the 2011 Japan Tsunami - family friends survived it by
climbing onto the roof of their building, but only just - lost
       everything apart from their lives.

I don't think anyone will forget either of those. The 2004
tsunami is probably the worst natural disaster that has happened
       in my lifetime.

Thanks love we are fine. On a bit of a hill and fingers crossed
ex-tropical cyclone Cody is tracking further east than initially
       expected.
Apparently the sonic boom from this eruption was heard in
Invercagill, south of the south island. Didn't hear a thing in
       Gulf Harbour.
I believe communications are down in Tonga, so hard to assess
       the full impact as yet.
