Thank you both for a great weekend. It was a revelation for me
to lead an hour with no plan! Still haven't figured out this
notification thing. I will work on it again next rainy day.
Namaste. Liz

Thank you both. I learned so much from both of you. What
impressive teachers you have become. I will take time this week
to consider future classes/courses/workshops for us. Look
forward to your questions, thoughts, experiences re: yoga and
teaching yoga on this forum.

Thank you both so much! I was very exhausted at the end of the
weekend, but I learned so much.
Here is a quick question following today's practice:
What are twists good for?
I know that they stimulate lymphatic system, they provide gentle
pressure/massage to inner organs, they make us feel longer, but
what else?

I am going to venture a guess that it is good and productive for
our nervous systems to do the crossing midline thing. It is a
developmental thing, something they use in anthroposophy to
evaluate children for first grade readiness etc. (It is
theorized that a child must be able to cross midline easily in
order to be able to read as the eyes must cross midline to
follow the text.) It is something that we don't get to do as
children as much as used to because of not getting left on the
floor to scrabble around (car seats, bouncy chairs etc.) I bet
it's good for connecting the 2 hemispheres of our brains that
way.......Just a thought.

Thanks, Liz. I haven't even thought about it. It totally makes
sense.
Here is an interesting part about twists from Yoga Journal:

Good thoughts re: nervous system, lymph system, organ massage.
Twists tend to be energizing and when used strategically can
help correct bilateral asymmetry. Just a note: strong twists are
contra-indicated in osteoporosis (just happen to be reviewing
Yoga for osteoporosis).
question: What are some common problems you notice when your
students are doing seated spinal twist?

First of all, some people cannot distinguish L from R. Also,
many have difficulties with keeping both sit bones on the
ground. I also noticed that some rotate just shoulders and head
and are not able/not know how to rotate from the lower chakras.
Many also keep their shoulders high and are not able to lower
them. I will keep an eye this Thursday for more situations, but
that is what I noticed so far.

Masculine vs. feminine in hatha yoga

Hi,
I found a nice explanation of masculine vs. feminine in hatha
yoga.

HTML http://yogagypsy.blogspot.com/2009/04/sun-and-moon-masculine-and-feminine.html
After last night practice, I finally figured it out.
So,
Feminine is in-breath, lunar, receiving, tha, airy
Masculine is out-breath, solar, grounding, ta, sturdy
Am I missing something?
Also, if feminine is receiving, what is masculine? What is the
opposite of receiving?

Well now I am thoroughly confused! On the lesson plan Laura,
you have breathing in, ha, imagine sun-this is the masculine
right? Then breathing out, tha, imagine the moon-feminine
right? But the quote from Mark Whitwell says the
opposite-breathing in is feminine, receiving and out masculine
and..... So is the in breath ha or tha? I will check out the
reading you sent Dzeraldina, but for now I remain, Confused

So I gather from the reading that it would be breathing in, Ha,
imagine the moon, breathing out, tha, imagine the sun?
