A nether horse highway?

What if we had nether portals linking up major locations and
cities in the server? Let players actually use their horses to
get to places.
We could take the cords the nether portal spawns at in the
nether for one location, and then link it up to other locations
we have marked for cords. Then sorta build things like railed
bridges made of cobblestone to prevent ghasts trolling us and be
well lit to avoid the issue of magma cubes and pigmen.
Doing this could allow us to get our horses to multiple
locations over the server relatively easily. With a bit of work
of course, we just have to do some coordinate math and work to
make safe bridges, but it could be a very useful thing. Cause
all the people i have sold horses too so far have had trouble
getting them back to their homes I:

Cobble is the best material for these bridges, mainly cause it's
SUPER common and easy to get and these bridges could span
THOUSANDS of blocks if the need came o_O

There are already a couple roads leading places, but I think
they're mostly netherack, so it might be better to leave them to
build new bridges of cobble.

I have built 3 of these pathways so far. Just doing some small
math and building with netherrack though. If we make it a
community project and do it as a serious thing for the server I
will be happy to help build a large highway system/train system
using the nether. It will be use at your own risk however.
Ghasts will still be in the nether and will not hesitate to
shoot you and your horse.

well seems a good majority is onboard. I guess I can make it a
community project. Me and a few others could place the portals
and the rest could build the roads?

Ive gotten good at making the portals. Can do them quickly and
easily now. The real question is where they would hook up to. I
assume ID wants a nether base/fortress thing connected via a
portal to new spawn. So we could have that be a sort of Hub for
the highway/train/subway system. Similar to the train station
being built in new spawn.
